What car to drive

I am a very nervous driver, who hasn't driven since passing her test. For dc 's sake I really want to change that. I am booking some refresher courses and starting to look for a car, that will be good for a learner.

I am 5 ft tall, so something that would be comfortable for shorter people.
I will be looking for something cheaper initially as I will probably end up scratching it etc at some point.

Any advice with that will be appreciate.

you want something small like a vauxhall corsa, nissan micra, honda jazz, there are lots of small cars which would suit you until you are more confident.

good luck!

Definitely an auto Fiat 500. Small, Easy to drive, usable to manoeuvre. Not really expensive.

I did my test in a small Peugeot and I remember thinking I need a booster for the seat... I'm guessing some cars are better than others in that respect.

But yes - small cars definitely seem less intimidating.

Try a Corsa and see how you feel in it. My DD is the same height as you and drives one.

jasflowers · 01/02/2024 07:33

The Citroen C1, or the Peugeot, Toyota equivalents (they all share the same Toyota engine.
Don't get an auto, learn to drive confidently first.

My DD is quite short and her one has proven reliable and easy to drive.

I love my skoda citigo and also loved my Honda jazz I had previously. I am only 5 foot 3.

Vinorosso74 · 01/02/2024 07:56

We've got a Toyota Aygo. They're pretty good for driving around town and economical petrol wise. However,if you live somewhere particularly hilly, you may prefer a slightly more powerful engine to get up those hills!

carefreebee · 01/02/2024 12:29

Thank you - no hills here.

Someone said I should get a manual...
I was actually thinking automatic. I did my test with a manual and regretted it as I'd prob save time and money and have more confidence if I learned with an automatic. Would that be a mistake?

No not at all. But automatics are way easier to drive. We have just bought a Toyota Yaris hybrid and it is brilliant. Absolute doddle to drive and loads of safety features.

Full hybrid so no plug-in needed and very economical to drive.

NachosAndCheese · 01/02/2024 12:59

Hyundai i10, I loved mine, I would never get a corsa tbh.

SleepingisanArt · 01/02/2024 13:06

VW Polo - decent size for shopping plus all the stuff you appear to 'need' for children! My children had them as first (and subsequent) cars, I've had one too though not at the moment.

Unicorn34 · 01/02/2024 13:11

I love my Fiat 500 and will get another when looking for my next car. So easy to drive and park

Mini automatic driver here. Fantastic. Wish I had bought one years ago.
