Is anyone else overlooked at work.

I have been at my job for a couple of years. There's a job that's come up which is so different to what I do. Its a grade higher than my current job and nothing remotely similar to my boring but nice admin job but it sounds like a really good job, no hassle, super Flexi and very varied, no 2 days would be the same. You'd get to meet ppl (not the public). It's exactly what I'd like.

I would really love to apply for this job but in reality I would just be terrible at the interview.

The managers of that team asked my lovely colleague if she'd want to apply, the job would be pretty much hers if she did, however she declined as it didn't quite fit in with her life at the moment. They would never ask me as I'm too quiet and they probably don't think I'd be a good fit.

I just can't help feel a bit sad. This is my life a thousand times over. Never been able to progress much, not just in work in every area. I'm just having a rant really. I wish I was more talkative and appeared friendly instead of being so shy and quiet.

Is anyone else like this? Those of you who are chatty - how do you do it!

I’ve always applied for everything and anything, just out of interest generally. View it as an experience, if you don’t get it, you’ve still learnt, and gained confidence. There’s nothing to lose by just giving it a go.

Apply for it! Give it a go, you've nothing to lose. Sending you loads of encouragement to give it a shot!

Why do you think you'd be terrible at interview?

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail and all that. Do loads of interview practice specific to the role.to raise your confidence, no reason you can't get it.

And not everyone likes a chatty patty OP. The enthusiasm alone you have for the role is really appealing- it would be to me as a hiring manager anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Apply for it, you can't be that terrible at interviews afterall you got that job

Ask for an informal chat with your manager and tell them what you’ve said here! If you’re reliable and good at your current job there’s no reason to think you wouldn’t be considered.

The thing is nobody is going to push you, or hand anything to you on a plate. People have never been like that because most are just looking out for themselves. Unfortunately the world seems to be going more that way too.

You have to push yourself, go for the interview, surprise 'em! Don't look back in years to come and regret advocating for yourself more.
