Manchester City centre for 2 days - what can we do?

DS3 (young teen) and I have 2 days in Manchester.

Ideas what to do, especially in an evening.

Looked at shows for Feb and there's Hamilton which I think he'd like, but it's booked up.

And hotel suggestions please.

DS3 doesn't do football so the football museum is not of interest.
Does like Anime.
Does like Japanese food.
Likes a museum.

I like staying in StayCity Wilde apartments (it's a hotel) near St Peters Square, they have a sale on until today, or otherwise Motel One below it.

Ooh we are checking places to stay.
