New double glazing draughty

Hi just wondering if anyone has changed their double glazing to new energy efficient double glazing is it normal for blinds to move on strong windy days or does that mean the frame and window isn’t efficient

there is a draught coming in from somewhere

BlueChampagne · 31/01/2024 14:50

Check whether the vents are closed?

steppemum · 31/01/2024 15:04

does it have trickle vents at the top?
If so you can close them. But they are good at stopping condensation and damp.

If not, then no, the blinds shouldn't move.

Are you sure the draft is coming from the window and not whistling round from the door for example?

We had this on one or two of ours. We got the fitters back out. They needed to adjust the closing mechanism. All is well now.

We didn’t install vents
i opted for mapei silicon sealant which said it can be used for exterior windows

we used a local glazier as safestyle and Everest were too pricey

It’s the lounge so definitely the window

he installed a composite front door for us as well and that also feels cold around the edges

we changed from carpet to engineered wood house very cold since even with underlay

It’s very very windy today so thought it’s just that

but then even on non windy days the area behind curtain feels cold
not what I expected from A rated windows

our windows are old double glazed and it does not feel cold behind the curtains.
with vents closed there is zero air movement even in a big storm.

I think you need to get him back. I think they are not sealing properly

The composite door he fitted has glass down the middle and it’s draughty where the glass is can actually feel air

the wooden panel around the glass is loose door not even a year old

the door feels heavy it’s the design on it that’s failing

the windows done almost a year ago and they need resealing

could you re seal old windows and not bother with new ones people would save a fortune

we didn’t go with safestyle or Everest as found them too expensive so chose a local glazier

Since 15 June 2022, in line with the new rules, all windows and doors must be fitted with trickle vents, unless there is an alternative, dedicated ventilation system fitted.

GasPanic · 08/02/2024 16:26

I am surprised you managed to get some fitted recently without vents.

When you say "seals" do you mean the actual seal between the glass and the frame or the seal between the frame and the brickwork ?

I have 20 year old + double glazed windows and they are not draughty.

Maybe now you realise why Everest/Safestyle were more expensive ...

Did you get a FENSA certificate for your new window installation ?

Zok · 13/02/2024 12:30

He’s been today he said his employee who has since been sacked didn’t seal under windows hence draught!
so that was happening for a year meaning all the polluted outdoor air was getting in

also said that the composite door would need servicing despite being a year old and adjusted the wooden frame and hinges
the wooden panel in centre of door might have moved if door was slammed

BlueChampagne · 26/02/2024 14:15

Hope the company is going to make good on their employee's shoddy work.
