Age to leave siblings alone

Ive got 2 daughters that are 7 years apart in age. I’m thinking we’re starting to reach an age where they can be left alone together for longer. I won’t say their ages as don’t want to sway peoples thoughts.
They’re both sensible and I currently leave them together for a couple of hours but wondered what everyone’s else’s thoughts were.

What ages would you be happy leaving them both together for:

  • a few hours
  • a day
  • an evening until 10pm
  • walking home from school together

8 and 15 with a 7 year gap.

A few hours 7 & 14 (if they get along well and both are happy).
A day 9 & 16.
An evening until 10pm 8 & 15
walking home together 6 & 13 if it was a short walk.

Babysitting when you were teen is irrelevant.

Times have changed.
You were probably getting paid.
It wasn't your sibling.

I babysat my sibling, for free. It was the late 90s and the next generation of our family are no less competent.

Oh, and what's changed is we have mobile phones, much easier.

I’d agree that having mobile phones is a big change, gives much more piece of mind.

for context the 7 year old is capable of looking after herself. She can make a snack/sandwich, is able to operate the microwave (just needs someone to lift the plate out if hot and knows to not try herself) she knows what she is and isn’t allowed to access in the kitchen, could use a phone to ring for help.

obviously I’d not leave her alone but she doesn’t actually need much looking after by her big sister. They just watch tv and play card or computer games
