I went to the gp to ask about weight loss jabs as I've tried literally everything over the years . I know these would work as when I have no appetite I can easily stick to a calorie controlled diet it's just everyday my appetite is insatiable and I eat everything I can get my hands on. Thing is they said I need to go through the weight management service to get them yet there's a two year wait! Does anyone know if there's any other way to get them prescribed ?
Thanks

You can order it your self but you have to pay for it and it's in the region of £200 a month.

emmaempenadas · 30/01/2024 20:14

No even diabetics are being turned away because of lengthy waitlists to get on it due to the massive supply issues.

You either need to wait 2 years or pay for it.

Netflixmad · 30/01/2024 20:16

You can go through an online pharmacy and pay. You have to fill in quite a lengthy assessment form.

Vallmo47 · 30/01/2024 20:18

I work in a pharmacy - the supply issues are insane.

Sorry! I've reported my post. I thought I was creating a new thread.

Do you need a prescription from GP before buying it from an online pharmacy?

With such supply issues, if you can't buy it, can you just stop taking it?

FrancisSeaton · 30/01/2024 21:59

No you don't need a prescription but I can't afford to pay privately
Oh well I will just have to stay fat

My DD has gone through weight management via the local hospital and they're not prescribing ozempic/wegovy. She had to do a 12 week online course which was mainly taken up by tech issues in the group, and now she's on a liquid meal replacement for 2 meals a day. She has also been offered medication along the lines of fat blockers but she's declined them as she's a medical student and couldn't face days on the wards running in and out of the toilets. She had an urgent referral via neurology and it took nearly 8 months to be seen.

The NHS has stated it can only be prescribed via a weight loss service but hasn't actually gotten around to setting up any such services!

I've seen people on here say they got it from their GP 🤔

Ozempic is only available on the NHS if you have type 2 diabetes. Wegovy is available via NHS for weight loss, but you have to have a diagnosed weight related health condition such as high blood pressure. And you do have to go through the weight management service so that wait time sounds about right

Not for weight loss they haven't

AndSoFinally · 11/02/2024 16:06

I mean not solely for weight loss, you need a Co-morbidity for NHS px
