Family member wants to gift us something for baby… suggestions please?

We have had an extremely generous offer from a family member who wants to buy us a big ticket baby item, they said such as the cot or pram.

We haven’t bought anything ‘big’ yet nor got any ideas of what we would like. We know we will need a Next to me crib, a cot and a travel system.

What would you recommend to ask for? What has been useful for you as a first time mum?

Thank you.

Thank you! Which one did you go for? I keep forgetting we’ll need one of those :)

We have this one, although as safe sleep guidelines say the baby should sleep in the same room as you for the first six months you might be better waiting for a sale as it's not something you'll need immediately and you'll run out the return period if there is a fault(we got ours on black Friday).

Co sleeping cot.

However I'd get most stuff second hand

Stokke trippe trapp highchair with newborn seat. Can use as high seat for baby at table the first 5-6 months whilst you cook or eat, then converts to highchair, then toddler highchair. Ds uses his everyday still at almost 4 years for eating all meals, craft, and pushes to kitchen worktop to use as safe place to help bake and prep food with us

Our basic £40 baby monitor with camera is fine, so I would definitely go for a good car seat or decent pram if they're looking to spend £300-400.

3-500 I would say car seat or a lovely fancy cot that will transform into a toddler bed one day (I didn't have room for one of these but would love one for my next baby)

Not a big enough budget for most prams and I agree I would buy second hand because why are they so expensive ?!

I think an ISA is a great idea. They can give what they want and it will be useful when they are older (unlike a car seat).

The gift is to help with the baby now. And a carseat is very useful. I'd go with carpet, pram or cot. Maybe ask what sort of thing they'd like to contribute to, they may have something in mind

I'd go for both of these. All the nappies you'll ever need and I found them brilliant. Almost never had leaks and use them all the time even now dc is potty trained.

I agree with a pp who said don't get a travel system. I'd get the best car seat I could and then a separate buggy. Most have adapters if you want to attach the car seat to it.
