Headache and generally feeling like shite on waking - anyone else?

Waking up every morning feeling like shite. Almost always a headache. And just generally...ill. Been going on for a couple of months and trying to establish what it might be.

It's not dehydration, as I'm making sure to drink enough during the day. Heating isn't on at night. Windows open all day but can't be left open at night due to noise.

Have considered the pillows, but I have three different types and have tried all of them. I sleep better on my front or with a flat pillow.

I sleep terribly anyway so for a while was taking antihistamines to help with sleep. Last three nights have done without them and have tossed and turned for hours.

I'm peri-menopausal but even before this I slept terribly. Didn't wake up feeling so crap though.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this, any advice? If you've experienced similar yourself and has it improved after taking certain steps? Is this part of the peri monopausal experience? I know that poor and disrupted sleep can be, but feeling this ill during latter part of sleep and on waking?

Any thoughts gratefully received!

This could be me. I had the dentist and they said I have a very dry mouth which is part of why I feel yucky on wakening.

I think weight and lifestyle is part of it for me but because I feel so tired all the time I cannot make the lifestyle changes that may help.

Hoping the spring mornings and evenings will help as currently it's still dark on dropping DC off and collecting from school and outside of that I'm working

If you tend to be out and about in the day, then I'd certainly getting a carbon monoxide alarm to rule that out. These levels will be checked during a boiler service, but that doesn't stop a carbon monoxide leak in the meantime.

Otherwise, I can't really offer any advice other than having a few sips of water if you're awake in the night. If it continues, then might not be a bad idea to get yourself checked out to rule out something like diabetes.

Glad to hear that the mouth guard was bearable. It does get better - I wear mine every night now and notice a big difference if I don't. Good luck.

Decided to give the cumbersome mouth guard another go. Tried it for a bit before bed to get used to it and was actually able to wear it all night. Didn't feel QUITE as bad this morning, so who knows if I am a teeth gnasher? Then again, I did take an antihistamine so that may have helped. Will continue to use the mouth guard for a bit to give it a fair go and monitor how I feel.

Need to work out how to sanitise the mouth guard now...

I recommend Steradent for sanitising it. I take mine out in the morning, give it a rinse and then leave it all day in a glass of water with a steradent tablet. Then when ready to wear it, I take it out of the glass, rinse it again and put it in.

Don't brush it with anything abrasive like your toothbrush - it will wear away the mouthguard, and its not necessary if you use Steradent. It will clean properly just by sitting in the solution.

Took me a while to get the cleaning regime right but this seems to work.

@viridiano - thanks, will get some of those today. Had a bit of sterilising fluid left so used that. Am surprised how quickly it stopped feeling like I had a bowling ball in my mouth.

Thanks everybody for your input 😊
