DD first real sickness bug and DH and I have it too. She’s nearly 3. Any tips on how ways to ride it out? We’re all so sick. __

Bowls, towels, Calpol, rehydration sachets ( we use boots own brand, blackcurrant flavour)
If a toddler starts suddenly licking their lips repeatedly and goes pale & quiet, they're about to vomit.

Good luck.

I had it last week, along with DH and DS (13) you just have to ride it out unfortunately. Just sips of water and if you can stomach food just dry toast. Ours each lasted 24 hours and fully recovered by 72 hours

Thank you both. What a nightmare! Glad you recovered well

we've just had D&V last week, lots of towels as above - hand towels are useful as they don't take up as much space to wash and dry but can easily catch a vomit.
Lots of nice things to drink, apple juice, smoothies, lucozade, etc. Lay DC on towels at nighttime then when they're sick just remove the top one.
Screen time as required!
Get the washing on as soon as there's a full wash, never feel like it but it helps so much to stop it all building up.

Can I jump on and ask what you do with a towel once covered in sick? How/where do you wash the sick off?

Pammela2 · 29/01/2024 21:51

bowls! And I’ve found lying the mattresses on the floor next to one another means I get to them to hold them over the bowls faster.

Ice lollies are always in our freezer and are much, much easier to keep down. Usually a parent who isn’t ill goes out for a stash- fruity ones. Then a fruit salad from marks and nice juice- lilt etc for when you’re better.

If you have a Tonies box or something I usually get them to lie v still and listen to that and have lots of naps!

Good luck! You’ll get there!

I was a kid during the days of square towelling nappies and enamelled potties (the ones like a big cup with a handle) and my mum kept them well after we were toilet trained. They were well used after toilet training age for car sickness and bugs. Nappies just the right size for mopping up operations and easy enough to wash. The old ways really are sometimes the best!

Jijithecat · 29/01/2024 22:48

Ritz crackers. Bananas when you're starting to feel vaguely better.

MissingMoominMamma · 29/01/2024 22:52

Make sure you rehydrate. I had it last week and ended up with really sore kidneys.

Lost control of my bowels whilst walking the dogs too. Thank goodness for dryrobes… 😳

Dump in the shower. Then someone (him) gets in and hoses it off. Or the garden with the hosepipe down a drain. This is not my job in these situations...!

Just need to get the bits off before the endless washing cycles.

OP, towels lining the bed, jugs and buckets, dettol spray. Good luck.

catchmewhenifall · 29/01/2024 23:05

Also, rehydration sachets are basically water, salt and sugar. Google recipes for making your own to save some pennies.

catchmewhenifall · 29/01/2024 23:08

Husband once heroically whipped his shirt off to catch a sick in his hands. He was proud of the fact that it was so neat he could tip it down the loo and not having to do The Great Hosing....

catchmewhenifall · 29/01/2024 23:09

In all seriousness, if it gets rather dire, try spooning teaspoons of water into their mouth slowly to keep them hydrated without bringing it back up.

oliveroses · 29/01/2024 23:11

This was us over new year. We did two hour shifts looking after the kids as we all had it at the same time. It was awful. A lot of tv was watched - and the washing machine was on constantly. Gave up on proper bedding and it was just towels and blankets. When you feel better you'll feel absolutely amazing!

Jadeee123 · 01/02/2024 20:23

I’ve just come down with this today, feel absolutely awful.

Nudgethatjudge · 01/02/2024 20:28

Ready salted crisps when you feel like eating, salts, carbs and not too grim of you vom them back up.

I am so
hungry but could not
possibly eat a thing, even the smell of food is knocking me ill. The intense nausea is unreal.
