Stupidest thing you've lost your shit over? Mine is spoons.

Just now gone to get breakfast (I know it's quarter past 2, I was busy) and the ice cream sundae spoons and the serving spoons are in the same section of the cutlery tray as the table spoons. I had a mini tantrum to myself because this happens every. single. bloody. time. I put the spoons away properly - teaspoons in one section, tablespoons in one section, ice cream spoons in one section, serving spoons in ... you get the picture.
Yet whenever anyone else unloads the dishwasher, what do I later open the kitchen drawer to see?
Huge pile of assorted spoons in the tablespoon section.
If you can out trivial-shit me, I'll be surprised.

To save you all some time :D :D
Is this all I have to worry about?
No. I'm also deeply concerned about the beans being in the peas row of my tin cupboard and the loo roll getting hung 'over' instead of the right way, which is under.

Why don't I just do it myself if it bothers me so much?
Fuck off. :D there are 4 adults in this house and 3 of them are doing shit WRONG and I'm not rewarding them by turning into the housework fairy.

I've now properly caught up.

The honey twirly spoon thing is different to the honey spoon (or syrup etc) that sits on the side of the jar.

Has there been discussion of sugar spoons? To go specifically into sugar bowls? My parents had 2. They rotated them so that even when being washed, there was always a sugar spoon.

My brother's in laws identify as Bavarian. They have multiple mustard options, according to time of year and type of sausage. I must ask about spoons for all these mustard options....

On petty duvet bedding related issues, I see the "duvet cover the wrong way" poster, and raise you... duvet cover on SIDEWAYS. I'll toss in "Using the big oversized pillowcases (that match the bedding) from Ikea on the old, small pillows and then using the small, old pillowcases on the fat oversized feather pillows, ALSO from Ikea." I mean, it's IKEA - it's all branded and logo'ed up. And you'd think the inability to stuff the fat pillow into the small pillowcase would be a giveaway!?!

When I was young and living in rented rooms in shared houses I figured out an important rule: all flatmates are entitled to three REALLY annoying habits. Annoying enough to make you want to murder them.

This rule also applies to family members, and most important of all it applies to partners/spouses - no matter how gorgeous and perfect they seemed before you moved in with them,

It has saved me any amount of stress, I can get enraged and tell myself "that was one of the three". And DH is still alive.

PuttingDownRoots · 30/01/2024 14:52

Recycling. Its simple. Paper, cardboard, metal tins, plastic bottles. Glass separate to that. Everything else in bin.

Can anyone in my house remember? Nope.

Yet again I've been confronted with a wheely bin with random crap in!!!

DP was looking for a new to us car. He actually considered a BROWN car. I put him right.

LOO ROLL. OVER.
It’s the first rule of The Bottom Inspectors

makeanddo · 30/01/2024 15:31

I had some sympathy until I read the loo roll under comment. So very wrong 🧻

Could we all assist @AffIt with the medication leaflet research? I take several different tablets each day, three of which come in boxes, and I am happy to record my box-opening-leaflet results.

Count me in.

Who on earth buys brown cars? Why does anyone deliberately make them?Confused

This is a question for the ages.

But then, I once had to do a secret frantic nod and "kill it" gesture to the car salesman as we had told 4 year old DS he could choose the colour of the car we were buying. I had not realise that particular car came in LIME GREEN and was available in the show room. He chose that one. Obviously. Thank GOD, the salesman picked up what I was putting down super quickly and came right back with, "Oh no, I'm so sorry, that one was sold this morning. The owner is coming to collect it later". I could have kissed him.

I did have a quick shout at this very thread - all those misguided 'over' people are now forbidden from ever entering my home.

So there.

Somebody who read once that brown cars are the least likely to be stolen, I suspect.

Usually also the same people who would turn up to pick up their potential girlfriend after passing their test that afternoon in something like an Austin Allegro that was at least 78% held together with Hammerite.

XmasCrumble · 30/01/2024 18:14

@ArmchairAnarchist2 has he noticed yet?? I admire you for doing that! Hopefully no more crumbs in the drawer!

omg yes @scoobysnaxx i hate this too, no matter what end you choose it’s always got the bloody leaflet in!

same way no matter which way I pick, the usb stick is the wrong way…

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 30/01/2024 18:38

@GingerIsBest I bought it ! It's really easy to spot in supermarket car parks.

I actually told the sales man it was a hideous colour but the price/spec was right ! and that yes I would spot it easily :)

How has no one on this thread questioned the fact that you wash your toddlers teeth with a towel?!

I do not understand the logistics or motive Grin

I think that's because everyone else realises she's putting the towel over her toddlers clothes when they get their teeth brushed 😆

PosyPrettyToes · 30/01/2024 19:13

DH has thrown out countless veg peelers with the peelings. Every time I get annoyed with him, and he says it’s my fault because I left the mess in the kitchen. Except I do all the bloody cooking because he cant cook, so my stance is that if I cook, he should clear up.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 30/01/2024 22:02

I thought the trick with pill packets was to open them on the left side. I reckon they think 90% of people are right handed so open them on the right and that's where they stick the leaflet go try up encourage you to read it. However, I've only tested this theory on the different makes of painkillers, so it definitely needs more research!

I've done this with so many peelers!! It annoys me no end but I keep bloody doing it!!!

TipulophobiaIsReal · 31/01/2024 07:30

I don't mind it when the leaflet is at the end I opened. Makes it easier to take it out and throw it away.

You throw it away?! In our house we enjoy the self-sabotage of stuffing it back inside the box, slightly more cumbersome each time, to annoy us afresh 16 times over.

distinctpossibility · 31/01/2024 08:50

I broke up with a long term boyfriend (2 years together) because he ordered Still Fanta at McDonalds.

We had a fiver between us, hadn't taken debit cards out or anything. So I worked out we had enough for a cheeseburger each and a medium fries to share as long as we shared one drink. He ordered and he ordered the one drink I didn't like. I immediately got the ick about his level of selfishness and broke up with him later that week. It was honestly the closest thing I've ever had to an epiphany.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 31/01/2024 09:23

*DH lost it after 22 years together that I never throw away the empty toothpaste tube.

I don't think I helped matters by calmly picking up the offending tube and squeezing another brush worth*

You can blow his mind even further by cutting the top off and getting another couple of brushes worth out of it.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/01/2024 10:19

We have separate bathrooms so I quite often take DHs toothpaste at the point he'd give up on it and finish it properly. Ditto soap - he gives up on them when they're about half used. I'm expecting some nice ones back following Xmas.Grin

goingtohellinahandcart · 31/01/2024 10:29

Kitchen scissors, there are never any in the drawer when I need some, why can't people(dh/dd) put them back when they've finished!!!

Oh my god, you are my HERO. I assume he KNEW that you didn't like Fanta? This is brilliant. And frankly ,not really in the spirit of the thread as it's not in the slightest bit petty Grin

I suspect there were loads of other selfish red flags that you only realised after?
