Does this look like it requires stitches?

I got bit by a dog (fully vaccinated). Bleeding stopped within 5 mins or so. I cleaned it with a sterile saline solution but I’m wondering if this might require stitches or can I just care for it at home? It is swollen, is that normal? Also that’s just dried up blood next to the cut. TIA

It should be liked at because it's a dog bite. Even if you don't need stitches you'll probably get antibiotics.

I would also say I good bites will need looked at.

Doubt it if it will be stitched but deffo get seen as may need a tetanus booster or some antibiotics.

Ouch, that looks sore!

Doesn’t look like it needs stitches but you ought to go to a minor injuries unit as dog bites generally need cleaning with iodine, antibiotic cover +/- tetanus jab.

gamerchick · 29/01/2024 13:22

I'd probably go and get that looked at anyway OP. You can't mess around with a bite

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 29/01/2024 13:23

As PP have said, not stitches but definitely seen. Hope you're ok OP that must have really hurt.

I’m struggling to understand what I’m meant to be looking at. Is it a very small wound to the upper lip? I can’t see anything requiring stitching in the pic, just a small puncture. How long ago did it happen? Is there much swelling? Like pp said, antibiotics and a tetanus shot are required for most dog bites, you’ll massively regret not getting them if they end up being required.

Tetanus at least and possibly antibiotics.

Oneearringlost · 29/01/2024 13:32

No stitches required, but most definitely needs antibiotics, dog's mouths harbour huge numbers and varied bacteria. Very common for pet bites to get infected. You need Co- Amoxiclav.

Sorry, just realised, with the current threads about medical advice....I should say, 111 at the least, ideally should be seen and assessed by an HCP.
Also, dog bite on the face?
What's happening to the dog?
