Why is it so difficult...

...to use bare/bear or phased/fazed correctly? I've just read on another thread that someone 'isn't phased' by by an event, and yesterday, that someone couldn't bare to be near another person.
Sorry, needed to rant

I'm with you! But someone will come along in a minute and tell you off as maybe the writer is dyslexic...

I often see break instead of brake now. I think reading books can help with grammar and spelling.

usedtobeasizeten · 29/01/2024 17:34

Yes! Sometimes it drives me so mad, I feel im loosing my mind!! Honestly….im fumming!

And this is why MN has a Pedants board. (Or should it be a Pedants' board?) Come over and meet your kind of people.

KindleGirlie · 29/01/2024 17:42

Also when did ‘3/4’ because 3 to 4 instead of three quarters

mrmagpie · 29/01/2024 17:43

I mean, it's obvious isn't it?

Not everyone has the same level of literacy or education, not everyone has English as their first language, yes some people are dyslexic (for those of you with your bingo cards out), some people think it's a post on a forum and not their university thesis so who gives a shit as long as people get the gist?

There are lots of reasons why it actually is difficult for people and lots of reasons why other people can't be bothered finding out how you spell a word as long as the meaning is clear. Does it really matter?

Why are you honing in on phased/fazed? It’s a mindfield for some people. Chill tf out, take a deep breathe and stop loosing your head over it.

Stop loosing my head?

Plus, @Somatosensational I only used those words as examples; there are many, many more, so not particularly honing in

😆😆

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen 'mindfield' recently!

It is also a perfectly natural phenomenon, when thinking faster than you're typing, that your brain just fills in whatever version in order to keep up. I reckon this happens far more on something like MN when OPs are upset and thinking fast, and typing slower on a phone.

My favourite will always be my little angle when talking about their kids 😆

minipie · 30/01/2024 10:09

Ooh I didn’t know the phased/fazed one.

Or when people write that they love the smell of their boyfriend’s colon 🙀
