Thank you, I think I’ve tried every reference I can on the internet but I can’t find it.
Also this house is full of antiques next to stuff from the high street so I’ve no idea where to start. I appreciate you responding

Is there a pattern or design on the vase? That might be easier to work out

What does it look like? Is it a vase?

Beamur · 28/01/2024 17:01

Try Google reverse image

FloofCloud · 28/01/2024 17:01

Just seen it's a vase - colours?

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 28/01/2024 17:02

People will be able to help more if you post a full picture of the vase.

TwigTheWonderKid · 28/01/2024 17:03

I've done a Google lens search but it hasn't returned anything even vaguely similar. It's probably just an individual potter maker's mark. Think you'll just have to 'fess up.

SandTigerSharkFart · 28/01/2024 17:05

Possibly Cornish Stoneware?

Uricon2 · 28/01/2024 17:06

It may well be a studio pottery mark and if so, the chances of getting an exact replacement are slim, even if only a few years old. Might be worth a scan of Ebay/Etsy to see if there's anything similar and if you can work the maker out, refine the search.

SandTigerSharkFart · 28/01/2024 17:08

And yes please to a photo of the vase, even broken!

BrokenVaseTrauma · 28/01/2024 17:09

Sorry I’m an idiot- there are a few bits of this stuff it’s brown with a powdery feel turquoise over it (not an expert) here is one I haven’t smashed

If it's easy to find then replace it. It sounds as if it's a one off though. Anyway it's awful when this happens, happened to me!

I genuinely was mortified, but phoned my friend whose house we were using explaining the problem, and offered to replace it or get something similar. She wouldn't hear of it, so I got her some flowers instead.

I suppose if it's a commissioned piece and very valuable, then it's a different story, but how do you know if that's true. If it is, then the insurance may cover it, and you pay the excess + a small gift. Accidents happen and I wouldn't stress too much about it or spend hours or days trying to source it either. Good luck anyway however it works out for you!

triballeader · 28/01/2024 17:14

Might not be a UK potters mark. On the whole they tend to be very clear.
Be honest with them. It might be a mass produced mimic they liked the look of OR it could be a collectors item in which case it could cost many hundreds of pounds to replace IF a similar item ever enters the market.

A sane collector should have individual art items that are worth real money listed in their home insurance so you could offer to cover the excess.

BrokenVaseTrauma · 28/01/2024 17:15

@couiza Thank you, if it was anyone else but this person I would feel a lot better about it!
Typical of me…

Reverse Google that bowl/plate ... it's lovely!

BrokenVaseTrauma · 28/01/2024 17:18

I’ve been reversing images and marks for days - but I’m very thankful for the ideas and help from everyone on this thread!

Please could we have a pic of some of the other stuff, especially the vase? They are often a unique shape to the potter, if that makes sense? Thanks

SandTigerSharkFart · 28/01/2024 18:24

It looks like a Blue Rutile finish? If that's any help 😀

FloofCloud · 28/01/2024 18:42

This?

Just own up to it, sincerely promise to replace it, and you never know, it may not be a favourite of theirs, it could be a vase they have never loved and they can now ask you to buy something new to replace it. I have lots of ceramics and my brother has given me some over the years which are not exactly my taste so I would be quite happy if it got smashed.

Uricon2 · 28/01/2024 19:46

Just remember OP that it was an accident and this was A Thing, it is not the end of the world. Own up, offer to replace, all you can do really Flowers

BrokenVaseTrauma · 28/01/2024 19:53

@FloofCloud afraid not, it’s a matte powdery finish not glass at all but appreciate your help

Is it Leonard Edgar for Ewenny pottery?

BrokenVaseTrauma · 28/01/2024 19:58

I will of course own up, I just hoped I could have a replacement ready to soften the blow.
Hopefully it’s not going to be a sentimental or terribly expensive piece. My own clumsy fault.
