Restless legs... (or leg in my case)... HELP!

Does ANYTHING help?
I had some weird neurological stuff happen years ago .. lost balance, couldn't walk, slurred speech, all after a virus. Lots of tests, no answers and was dx with FND (which I think is code for 'no idea). Gradually improved but was left with Restless legs ..but only on the left, where the weirdness was worst.

It is terrible at night and most nights I average 4-5 hours if I'm lucky. I hate it.
In the last few weeks it has progressed from horrible squirmy buzzing sensations to massive myoclonic jerks. I have no control over it.. my leg literally leaps. I'm on gabapentin for nerve pain (diff body part!) which helps a little but it's ruining my sleep, and now, quality of life.
I'm also doing DJ and the lack of wine I think has made it worse ..the wine helped to dampen it a bit!

If anyone has any suggestions (or has tried meds that actually work) please share. I'm planning on revisiting the GP but an appointment will be months away!

Oh you poor thing. I suffer on and off but it was horrendous in my last pregnancy. I wanted to chop my legs off.

I found an Epsom salt bath (with a really really generous helping of the salts) made a good difference to me!

Also had this during pregnancy and it’s just horrendous. Agree Epsom Salt baths helped ease it a little. Was also helped was having a magnesium supplement before bed, which makes sense since they’re more or less the same thing only the supplement absorbs it straight away as opposed to the bath.

If I forgot before bed and didn’t take it, it was horrendous again so it definitely really helped.

I suffer from inherited RLS but only suffer if I'm overly tired or I've had a drink.. During winter I absolutely love having a mulled wine before bed (low % too!) but noticed my RLS was getting worse and was waking me up! I haven't had a drink since just before Christmas now (with the exception of NYE) and haven't had an episode. Lack of sleep and alcohol are known triggers!

Research has found having higher than normal iron levels does help. Otherwise trials of medication for some patients can also be appropriate but all come with side effects and some with the potential of augmentation of symptoms.
Medications your GP may consider but equally maybe be reluctant to try are gabapentin, pramepexole and tramadol. Sedatives like diazepam have also been tried but risks out weigh benefits.
RLS is really miserable but iron is definitely worth a try with very little risk
