If you drink alcohol, why do you drink it?

I’m sat here sipping my vodka and coke and this random question popped into my head.
Do you drink because you like the taste or something else?
I drink alcohol to numb my problems (not healthy really, I know) I also drink because It relaxes me. Just to add I’m not an alcoholic- I rarely drink really! And I’m only having the one.
Also what is your favourite tipple? Mine at the moment is Smirnoff cherry vodka and Coca Cola. I’ve only just discovered it and it tastes good.

I only drink in social situations, I never just have a drink at home, even though I have a cabinet full of spirits, no idea why though because I love pink gin and cocktails, I just have no desire to have a drink at home when it's just me and dh, again, no idea why!! Dh doesn't really drink either. I used to have a glass of wine a night but haven't done for about 10 years. I could go months without a drink if I didn't go out/to a friends for drinks. My favourite drink is a Long Island Iced Tea!

I love the taste of certain ales, I had some ruby porter a couple of years ago and it was gorgeous! Hard to get round here though, but ruby ale is just as nice. Some lighter ones are lovely too (Level head tastes like elderflowers, Blandford fly like ginger.) Also love ciders and alcoholic ginger beer. The rhubarb and ginger one is gorgeous. 🤤
I like gins too, currently got three open bottles in the cupboard (although I'm not allowed to drink for a while!)
And some wines are lovely. There's a fizzy rosé I love, and I love a Riesling.
Oh, and spiced rum. I love The Kraken, especially in hot chocolate.
Also like Bailey's. 😋
Tried Jack Daniels and I wasn't impressed.
There's loads I haven't tried, but I stick to the sort of things I know I'll like.
I like that light fizzy feeling I get from a drink, but don't go any further. I don't like being sick, and I've never been properly falling down drunk or had a hangover, and I'd like to keep it that way!

Out of curiosity, can you not get alcohol free wine that tastes the same if its not for the alcohol effect?
I don't like wine at all so no idea if the taste changes much for alcohol free

Unfortunately alcohol free ‘wine’ tastes nothing at all like the real thing.

I like the taste and the relaxation. Although I have Bedtime Tea to relax too in an evening. I don't like being drunk and I don't sleep very well if I've had more than 8 units, so I limit what I drink generally and if I'm on spirits at home I measure. If non-alcoholic versions existed that taste the same I would go for them, but I've tried a lot and nothing cuts it. It's all too sweet. I'd rather just not have alcohol.
I'm not bothered drinking in social situations, I have a variety of friends and some drink, some don't. I'm naturally confident so happy to chat, dance etc without alcohol.

Like the taste and a bit of a buzz - you only live once

i drink probs half bottle red every night

i love it

on fridays and saturdays i may have a bottle

for me it makes the night ‘special’

i genuinely love that ‘sitting down at 9pm and watching tv with wine’

ive drabk like this for years, i’ve toyed with idea i may have problem given i do crave it daily but it’s never progressed to afternoon/early evening

it’s always been ‘a couple of hours before bed’ thing for me
