Branded children’s clothing

Hi there,

I am wanting to get my nearly 6yr old a few nice hoodies or tops for his birthday (he will get toys too)

I normally get his clothing from Matalan, H&M or Gap so looking to add something a few special bits to his wardrobe.. what’s popular amongst his age group? I liked an under armour tracksuit and a camo north face hoodie? What stuff do your kiddos of similar age like? Thanks

YouTuber merch is very popular in my DS’s primary, also game merch as far as brands hype and the usual sports brands are all popular.

at 6, honestly save your money for when he will really care about brands

at 6? could have been from a bargain bucket as long as comfy

and 14… a different story

My 8 year old wouldn't know what a brand is. He likes comfy joggers and tshirts with Minecraft on or football stuff

Based on my 6YO’s class none of them care about brands. The boys either don’t care at all or want hideous stuff covered in Pokemon or Minecraft designs from cheapo places like H&M or Asda 🤣 They do not care about North Face eg my DD has some NF stuff but views it no differently to H&M stuff and only wanted it because the leggings had a funky pattern on them, not because it was NF.

i think the real question is

what brands do you want to buy OP. Because i suspect your 6 year old won’t give a flying fig

Thanks everybody for the wise words, I’ll wait to bankrupt myself with designer clothing when he hits teenage years and puts it on his own wishlist. For his birthday he said he wants more Jurassic world dinos, a shark cake and a trip to the aquarium to see some sharks so I think I’ll do that. I just see so many other kiddos around our area in Nike airforce trainers and North face/Nike stuff, I didn’t want him to the odd one out.

My 6 yo knows brands due to pre teen / cousins etc.
She likes river island, nike and Adidas. So all relatively cheap.
Shes super fussy on clothes, hates leggings but loves jeans /cargos.
To me that's not comfy for playing in a parked etc but she much prefers it and is comfortable that way.

CookingFromScratchVirgin · 27/01/2024 10:11

Also footwear, normally air force, vans, converse and some normal velcro nike/Adidas for pe.

Why? It's the parents dressing him in those clothes. Children his age don't care.

Mine always Chanel

fonfusedm · 27/01/2024 11:06

@Aug12 only now has my 10 yr old discovered Nike

My Gds (7) is exactly the same.
Plenty of time in future to be worrying about brands - IMo anyway. Gds would infinitely prefer the extra money to be spent on whatever (overpriced!) toy he’s currently into.

Dmsandfloatydress · 27/01/2024 11:21

My child's clothing preference at 7 is nothing with sheep on it. He wouldn't know one brand from another. The coolest trainers are ones that light up! He is 7. It's teenagers that want the £300 trainers not 7 year olds who will destroy them in 6 weeks playing football.

prescribingmum · 27/01/2024 11:25

My 6 and 7 year olds don’t care either. As long as not ‘babyish’ they pretty much wear anything. Comfort is main thing driving their choice

Imnotabeliever · 27/01/2024 11:31

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that Adidas tracksuits (for kids) are pretty timeless and lasted aged for my DS at that age. He got a good 2 years out of them. Nike didn't last as long and under armour track pants were odd sizing but the hoodies are a favourite.

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 27/01/2024 11:32

Agree with all PP, kids at that age don’t care. My 7 year old DD like anything as long as it is super colourful and her favourite shop is Primark.

My 10 year old DS is obsessed with Nike but that is very recent, at 6 he wanted things with Minecraft characters on it mostly.
