DS gutted!

Absolutely gutted here - he will be a huge act to follow and who would follow him? Steven Gerrard is in Saudi till 2027 - not that he is a serious contender, but he will be mentioned, I have no doubt about that.

End of the season will be emotional for sure.

rainbowhairchalk · 26/01/2024 12:04

Devastated. So sad

cheesychipsontheoche · 26/01/2024 12:09

Xavi Alonso I've heard.

Wishful thinking I think!

My Man Utd supporting husband suggested Mourinho 🤣🤣🤣

Why is it wishful thinking? Anchelotti has extended his contract with Real so he won't be going there.

Gutted here too, expected it in the next few years but this feels very sudden.

It's wishful thinking on my part because he's hot 😂 I don't actually know his contract situation but he's so young, I'd be surprised

burblish · 26/01/2024 12:18

Beyond gutted - how do you replace someone like Klopp? Not just in terms of his sheer brilliance as a manager, but for the way he has come to embody the heart and soul of the club. Listening to his interview today, you really understand how much it has taken out of him to do what he does year after year. Thank you, Jurgen - YNWA.

What I'm praying for now is for post-Klopp Liverpool to avoid the fate of post-Fergie Man Utd.

Ah OK, yep he's pretty young but definitely the best option out there and the bookies favourite.

Tiredandannoyed2023 · 26/01/2024 12:20

DS will be sad when I pick him up from school.

Klopp is a huge personality and a hard act to follow.

Yes he's a specual manager, that's for sure.

If we did get Xabi, at least he has that connection and history with the club, and some unfinished business too!

beguilingeyes · 26/01/2024 13:19

Aside from all the football stuff, he always comes across as such a top bloke and all-round great human being.
Sad.

feathermucker · 26/01/2024 13:30

Gutted!

Hopefully Xabi

burblish · 26/01/2024 13:31

It's so difficult for whoever succeeds him, though - how do you fill Jurgen Klopp's boots? I think Pep Lijnders would have taken over if Klopp had seen out his contract to 2026, so it's a shame that he is also leaving as the continuity would have been good. I totally get it, though.

Had Gerrard stayed at Rangers and continued to be successful there, then I think he would have been the natural pick. Unfortunately, he looked so hopelessly out of his depth at Aston Villa that I don't think he is a realistic option at least for now. Xabi Alonso has been very impressive indeed at Bayer Leverkusen this season, and he has that connection with the club that will mean he has the goodwill of the fans and they would also likely be patient with him. I don't know if he will feel ready to make that change right now - we will all be watching this space!

Otherwise, I reckon there will be a lot of speculation re Roberto Di Zerbi.

Whoever comes in, one thing is for sure: this truly is the end of a magnificent era in more ways than one. The players we have and recruit, and the way that we play, are totally reflective of the manager; these things are, naturally, going to change with a new person in charge.

TheBirdintheCave · 26/01/2024 13:32

I actually cried. He's become a fixture at our club. I can't imagine it without him. It's such a surprise.

WMGPFT · 26/01/2024 13:34

Absolutely gutted. Xabi Alonso would be my first preference, if not Luis Enrique.

TheChippendenSpook · 26/01/2024 13:47
Sad
Westfacing · 26/01/2024 13:49

Had to happen sometime I suppose Sad

Gawd, who is gonna replace him!

This he will be very hard to replace. I hope Liverpool don't lose Salah too. I hope Liverpool and Klopp finish with a lot of trophies this year. He's already a legend at Liverpool. YNWA Jürgen.

TokyoSushi · 26/01/2024 14:51

I am honestly devastated, he's such a brilliant person and really 'gets' Liverpool, he will be enormously missed and so difficult to replace. I get to go to Anfield every few months and it's absolutely my most favorite thing to do. It's one of those things that we knew would happen, but I didn't think it would be today, especially with Klopp 2.0 just getting going. Here's hoping that we win them all this season, it would definitely be a fitting tribute.

Yes, I can see the possibility that the club will be referred to as Steven Gerrard's Liverpool next season, as it was for Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa.

ChimneyPot · 26/01/2024 14:57

An impossible act to follow.

I booked flights to Liverpool for the last game of the season when I heard the news.

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 26/01/2024 15:14

Absolutely gutted here too! Hoped it was April Fool's Day when the news popped up on my phone and even more gutted when I realised the news was true. He's going to be a hard act to follow but we need to make the most of having him with us until the end of the season, and hopefully some trophies at the end of it.
Xabi Alonso favourite with the bookies currently to take over, a fan favourite and would be popular, but we will see.
For now I'm just glad that Jurgen is a red! YNWA.

Oblomov23 · 26/01/2024 15:39

Not surprised, he has said before. Liverpool fans were lucky to have him fit as long as they did.

LlynTegid · 26/01/2024 17:29

I admire him for leaving at a time of his choosing (assuming it is not for health reasons). Leaving before you are hated or forced out is a great life skill, and we can all think of those who have outstayed their welcome.

From a football perspective, it seems as if he leaves Liverpool in a good shape. Unlike it seems when Alex Ferguson retired from Manchester United.
