Hair loss at 38

I'm wondering if there is something wrong. My hair has always been my pride and joy and over the last few months it's been dwindling to nothing. I often have times of the year when I seem to "moult" and then it gets fuller and all luscious again but this has now been going on for months (October time maybe?) with no signs of improving.

The hoover is always full of hair, hair spiders come out of the washing machine, DCs pull my hair out of their mouths. It's horrendous!

Could there be something underlying? How do I find out? And how do I fix it?

Not sure but I'm following as have the same problem. I am 40 and it's been getting thinner for about 6-7 years but the last few months a lot is coming out, at least a hazelnut ball size each time I wash but often more like a walnut (I wash every second day but it's very greasy by then). That doesn't include the hairs that come out when drying or combing or just generally running my fingers through!

I have lost about 30% in the last few months.

I have tried cutting my hair shorter, took about 5 inches off, using hair oil, only using heat very rarely, drying my hair with a t-shirt instead of a towel, not brushing and only using a wide comb. Nothing is helping.

Sorry @giadaros it sucks doesn't it. I lose that even when I don't wash my hair. My stairs in particular get covered, that's just from the motion of walking and they fall out, I could cry!!

I have been wondering if I have issues with my thyroid but only have mild symptoms so nothing bad enough to warrant a GP visit. But maybe it could be that, maybe I'll pay for a private blood test and see.

You've also reminded me that I haven't had it cut for a while so it could be a good place to start, it might give it a bit more strength and volume.

Honestly my hair is the only thing I genuinely liked about my looks, and I could use it to hide my aging, wrinkly face. So sad!

Hi @Nighttroubles3, I'm really sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with your hair. Have you recently made any changes to your hair care routine, like using new products or dyeing your hair? Sometimes, certain chemicals in hair dyes can contribute to hair thinning and loss. It might be helpful to reflect on any changes you've made and consider if they align with the timeline of when you started noticing these issues.
