Getting rid of fitted kitchen to make a freestanding one

We have a small kitchen which is starting to look shabby. We were going to change the cupboard fronts - the cupboards themselves are okay - but I've always admired freestanding kitchens. I like how they can be flexible to a large extent and you can move things around.

Has anyone got rid of their fitted kitchen and gone freestanding? The only thing we're restricted by is the position of the sink, washing machine and an electric hob - we don't have an oven.

Where do you find the furniture? Can you do it gradually rather than completely rip the entire fitted kitchen out. Have you done it then regretted it?

We won't be moving anytime, this is our forever home.

All upper units would be removed with only extractor remaining. Could put a couple of small shelves up.

@AAllFunAndGamesUntilYoureRunningForTheLastTrain

I don't use my oven..l do a chicken in my slow cooker then airfryer ( had an airfryer since they first came out) onto my 7th one ( upgrade).
I don't eat pizza.. an airfryer is a mini oven.. so what you can do in an oven you can do in an airfryer.. some people simply cannot use an oven ( I'm disabled)..

I'd love a freestanding kitchen just to be able to pull it all out to deep clean. I'd tile floor to ceiling and I'd have stainless steel units on wheels.

I absolutely love un-fitted kitchens!
I get so excited when I see a kitchen with a bit of heart/soul/history.
But I'm a bit on a Don’t give a shit how many crumbs gather under kick boards and I also would decide to move my kitchen around in the middle of the night Grin my hate is more for the identical kitchens which look like a surgery. I'm house hunting at the moment and it's bonkers how everyone has exactly the same kitchens.

I know habitat used to do them (as mentioned) habitat used to make such good stuff if you can find it on eBay etc.
I'd be looking for Welsh dressers and large pantry cupboards which can be painted etc.

I quite like a mixture of old and new - but it depends on the age of the house I guess, there's so many ideas on instagram, I love how European unfitted kitchen look.
Devol & British Standard will have wonderful examples of kitchens which will include vintage/custom free-standing pieces you just need to follow the trail and find where they are sourced.

Have fun, I'm so jealous!
