Noom / Nutracheck / My fitness pal

Looking for recommendations as to which of these is best. I'm not afraid of just counting the blinking calories if there's an app that will help.

Not actually overweight at the moment but the weight is creeping up and I want to get into good habits generally.

A year or so since I last used CC apps so can't comment on Noom but I much preferred Nutracheck to my fitness pal, it was well worth paying the fee for.

Haven’t used Noom although did do the initial registration and it seemed a bit too “preachy” for me - I wanted standard calorie counting. I used my fitness pal for ages and it’s awful; very American, lots of uk own brand food not in there plus huge variations of the same item because people can add their own! I now use Nutracheck and it’s fab, UK based so all supermarket own stuff is in there and it’s only from their database, people can’t add their own data. Simple to use. The only thing that majorly annoys me is the forums which I avoid now, so much bad advice on there that isn’t moderated (people telling others to increase their calories because of “starvation mode” for example 🙄)

Thanks. Sounds like I should probably go with Nutracheck then.

Another vote for nutracheck - it's geared towards uk market so no reference to cups etc like with mfp

Pushkinini · 24/01/2024 15:37

Another recommendation for Nutrachreck. The database is so much better for Brits.

ManchesterRoad · 24/01/2024 15:43

chipping in with another nutracheck vote - miles better than MFP for people based in the UK.

Noom adds extra complications of red/green/orange foods which I found off putting.

barkymcbark · 24/01/2024 15:45

I use Noom but the free version as I just want to use it to count my calories a

Another vote for Nutracheck. When I have used it, it is so straightforward and easy.

I went through the sign up for Noom and it's pretty £££ and quite full on. I never actually signed up and have received loads of emails discounting it - it comes down loads if you wait. I read somewhere else that most Noom members get given 1200 calories - I don't know if this is accurate or not but it put me off as I need a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix.

MFP usually has a grams option when you go into it though. And most stuff from U.K. supermarkets can be bar coded. I don’t have a problem with it being American.

I use Noom (without a subscription, so it's free). Personally I quite like the orange, yellow and green foods as it helps me to be a bit more mindful about making good food choices rather than just eating rubbish within my calories. No reason you couldn't ignore those categories if you weren't interested in that though - the 'home page' just shows total calories. It connects with any app you may be using to track your steps as well and will adjust your calorie goal based on your activity.

I love nutracheck, was £20 for a year and well worth it . I've lost 1 1/2 stone

60% off Nutracheck at the moment.

Grumpystripes · 24/01/2024 16:00

Nutracheck.

It has a brilliant database and it allows you to choose your preferred diet so you can do fasting / low calorie/ low carb etc and will do all the macros for you.
