Can dehydration cause cystitis?

It feels like I’ve got cystitis at the moment - was really bad this morning, felt like I needed to wee even though I didn’t. I was going into the office so took 2 paracetemol which seemed to help and it went away.

However I’ve just been to the loo now 5.5 hours after last going and I’ve got the symptoms again. It’s definitely not a UTI.

Perhaps it’s hormone related as my period has just finished but I also don’t drink much water at all - is it possible for dehydration to cause cystitis?

Yip you can get that feeling where you know it’s coming. You can down loads of water and flush it out your system if you get it early enough though usually. For me it’s a warning sign that I’ve not drank enough

Yes, dd would get this if she didn’t drink enough. A little bicarb in water will change your urine pH so less acidic so it hurts less and more water than you care to think about iver the next few hours.

Your urine needs to be a pale straw colour.

I am in agony again this morning. My wee is dark orange, not good.

Does anyone have some advice on how to get rid? I am planning on drinking a tonne of water today but anything else that could help?? It’s definitely not a UTI.

How do you know it's not a UTI?

KnickerlessParsons · 24/01/2024 10:03

Isn't cystitis a UTI?

Go and get some cystitis relief sachets from the chemist. They turn your wee alkaline. Don't have any fruit juices, alcohol or strong coffee. Drink a shit tonne of water.

Yes, I had what I thought was a water infection initially and took some antibiotics to clear it, but it never fully went away. I felt so awful, I was fully sweating in the morning and absolutely freezing (teeth actually chattering) in the afternoon. I went to the out of hours and after checking a wee sample he said I was dehydrated, which for me is quite bizarre as I drink about 3 litres of water a day! Got some more antibiotics, had a really good sleep and started to feel more human within 36 hours!

I'd definitely make an appointment at your doctors to get some antibiotics if you're feeling that bad.
