What point in your relationship did you buy a 'family' house?

I was very lucky to buy a 2 bed flat when I was 25 (nearly 10 years ago). I just love it and I'll be honest, I am reluctant to leave it.

DP wants us to have 'our' place rather than my place. We're getting married in April (relatively small wedding but still a bloody fortune) and then we're going to TTC immediately (esp because of age). I am conscious of trying to save for all of this and house prices are so, so high. I think we should stay put for another 2/3 years but he seems to find it so important that we have a family house.

We had two children when we were able to buy our first home. No childcare costs though as I stayed home when they were preschoolers.

I think this is as much about having somewhere that's 'ours' rather than 'hers'.

Its a hard thing to describe, I very much wanted an 'our' place, and my friend was the same.
A guy at work laughed him and his wife bought their 'our' home after one of them wanted to replace a picture the other said 'no its my house' red was saw and the house was on the market a week later!

We bought a house when we moved in together, pre kids. Spent a couple of years renovating it, then had lodgers to fill it up a bit and make a few bob till we got married and had dc. It was a lovely house, but in a terrible area, so then we moved again with a toddler and a baby - I don’t recommend doing that.

Mid and late 20s, we chose the 3 bed semi further out rather than the flat in the centre, cost was not far apart. We were ftb. We later married and had our child there, but have since moved several times.
