So envious of tight-knit female friendship groups

Just looking at a photo of Nicole Appleton, Emma Bunton, Holly etc on Instagram with glasses of fizz, birthday cake and all looking very glam. I know things aren’t always what they seem on social media, no-one knows what goes on behind the scenes and all the usual caveats…but it just looks so fun! Who wouldn’t want a tight-knit gang of gorgeous girls to celebrate and commiserate with on life’s journey.

I’ve got a friend from school, a friend from Uni, and some mum friends and they’re all lovely and we meet up intermittently..but I haven’t got a girl gang, for want of a better expression. I don’t know if it’s January blues but I feel lonely.

Do you have a group like that? Does it provide a secure backdrop to your life, having a go-to group of friends?

I don’t have a girl hang and I’m perfectly happy. I prefer one on one meets - we can talk properly!! And less compromise as we can agree to meet and do something we are both totally happy with :) xxx

I'm the same. As in I envy these groups. I'd love it but also sometimes I like the simplicity of one to one friendships (and I don't have many). In novels/films they seem to meet and all be best friends instantly.

Same. I was on the periphery of a self-proclaimed girl gang, but I couldn’t do it… didn’t like the dynamics and was resistant to it. I’ve never been good in groups, preferring one-on-one friendships. I would live to be in a circle if friends but unlikely at my age! Have a nice parents’ group but I’m already closer to one than the rest and live in fear of her becoming BFs with one of the others!

From my observations of these girl gangs there's a lot of bitchiness and backstabbing going on within that group, you don't see that in the photos.

I’m the same @RosieAway…the dynamics of groups can make me slightly nervous and I’m much quieter than I am one-on-one. So I’m wanting something which probably wouldn’t even suit me anyway..where’s the logic in that 😜!!

I’ve seen one spectacularly explode locally. All the ladies mid forties. I used to be envious and now im glad im spared the stress of running into a former girl gang bestie in M&S. appearances aren’t always what they seem.

Honestly, while I’m sure there are exceptions, I think that ‘tight-knit girl gangs’ joined at the hip are very often composed of people who’ve not moved terribly far from home, mentally and physically.

They do seem loyal op. I prefer smaller meetups though. 5 us met last wend school mams was lovely. I wonder in big groups is it bitchy though.

They are toxic.

nothing to be jealous about
