Can black mould cause sickness in this situation?

We had a terrible leak from the flat upstairs in one of our bathrooms 3 weeks ago that spread into the hallway and quite quickly black mould covered the bathroom ceiling. It’s also made the condensation in our house 10x worse (was bad before anyway tbh) and despite running a dehumidifier and wiping up the pools, it’s just hard to control the mould around the windows. I cleaned the ceiling as best as I could with bleach but there’s also a hole they had to cut to access the space in between the flats that is filled with mould that I cannot reach. Landlords have told me they need to wait until the leak fully dries before decorating which I completely understand, however we have been sick for the last two weeks now. Most probably just the season but we haven’t really been anywhere. My 2 year old now has another cough and vomiting with stomach cramps and I’ve been having weird upper stomach pains with diarrhoea and terrible headaches. Could this be related to the mould? Is there anything I can do in the meantime while we wait for it to dry?

Omg, black mould can definitely cause sickness and can make any viruses or ailments a lot worse. My son had it in his first flat at uni and it made him wease, cough, exhausted and a lot of other things. As soon as he moved out he said he felt like a heavyness was lifted from the air. Do what you need to do to get it sorted.🤞🤞🤞

@Teasie123 thanks so much for your response! That is scary 😧 Would it happen as quickly as this? The leak was only a few weeks ago! I’ve been freaking myself out with things online but not sure if that’s long term exposure. Apart from keeping that bathroom door shut I’m not sure what else I can do 😭

It can happen at anytime, especially if you have recently caught a bug...it would definitely make it worse. Make sure to keep Ur bedroom doors closed at night as the spores can travel in the air. But honestly, I should be fine if he's got a handle on it and it is fixable. But just be careful and try to keep Ur exposure to a minimum.x
