Lateness

I booked a video appointment (I dislike them anyway), I was told the link would arrive same day morning. Appointment 12.
im waiting… link arrives 1205. Then message- where are you?
nah, no thanks.
this will go down as me not attending.

IT mistakes can't be helped. If the appointment was urgent, you'd have waited. Whether it will go down as non attendance or not is difficult to say. 5 minutes late is not that long and you don't know what might have happened to cause that.

Bubbleohseven · 22/01/2024 12:13

I guess it wasn't important for you. I'd be the same.

Doesn't ANYONE do what they say they will anymore? If you say your gonna send something in the morning then just send it in the morning. You know, like you said you would.

WhatcomesafteraRainbow · 22/01/2024 12:16

These are good points.
I can see why you would think it’s not important to me but it was. But the appointment was to help me. If they’re late, that’s not the person I want helping me.
it feels petty & im incredibly stubborn.

It seems to me that you are being petty - there are numerous reasons why it could have been sent late and it was only 5 minutes. You either want help or you don't.

And stupid too. If it was important to me I'd have waited.

The very definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
🤷‍♀️

SD1978 · 22/01/2024 12:35

I understand what you're saying, but if this was of direct benefit to you, and now you are classed as a no show, I really feel that you've been stubborn to your own disadvantage. Will you be offfered a second appointment after failing to attend the first?

HalloumiGeller · 22/01/2024 12:38

This kind of shit annoys me too, but if it was important, I wouldn't have cut my nose off to spite my face like that. After all, they don't care that you didn't attend, only you is affected by this. It sounds to me like you didn't want to do it, so was looking for an easy way out.

NotFastButFurious · 22/01/2024 12:39

I think it depends on the context. If it's with someone who's in back to back appointments all day then 5 minutes to be late is nothing really and it's not always possible to message the next person to say they're running late. Sounds like it's your loss though.

neilyoungismyhero · 22/01/2024 12:42

I have had medical reviews like this for the past 3 years. They're never on time. The consultant is always lovely and apologetic- things happen..yes it's irritating and annoying but life happens plans change.

Onceuponaheartache · 22/01/2024 12:43

Context is needed.

You describe them as aperson helping you so assume potentially it was a counselling/medical appointment then I think you were a bit of a dick and you should have waited. Delays happen in these situation and you need to develop patience.

Other things I would be miffed if they were day 10-15 minutes late, but honestly 5 mins if an acceptable tolerance.

purplecorkheart · 22/01/2024 12:45

If it was important for me then I would have waited and lateness is something I cannot stand. However you have no idea why the person was late, they could be having IT trouble after storm etc. Most likely if you still need help from this organisation/department/business etc you are going to have to deal with this person.

Others are able to share the same point without calling me such a name. I’ll acknowledge their comments instead.

It’s annoying and I dislike when things end up late or cancelled, but for just 5 mins (not as if it’s half an hour later and you’ve headed out) I’d have just jumped on, if it’s a call that would have helped you, does feel a bit cutting off your nose, over just 5 minutes.
it sounds like the person was probably on time but there was a mistake sending out the link

idontlikealdi · 22/01/2024 14:09

I'm sometimes late for calls because I need a wee and my diary is back to back. I always schedule five minutes after the hour and 5 minutes before.

noctiscaelum · 22/01/2024 14:16

5 minutes late is within reasonable. No one can function exactly on time.
