Best energy boosters for busy people

And when I say busy I really mean super lazy and stupid people like me who won't do what's good for them.

I know the usual stuff: drink more water, exercise, vitamin d, sunlight, sleep, etc but what I'm really looking for are personal experiences to motivate me. I know I'm not drinking enough water, exercisingnit sleeping and I know I'm deficient in vitamin d but I don't feel the motivation to change anything.

I'm hoping someone will say they upped their intake to 2l a day and then were able to run a marathon and become a best selling author in the span of 2 months.

Any other more unusual tips are also very welcome. What turned your life around terms of energy? Thank you!!

Im afraid I dont drink enough during the day either so no help there but for the energy boost Ive stopped the crap and eat high protein, lowish carbs and loads of roughage ( veg ) and I feel amazing

Mr S is in awe of me cos I have so much get up and go and can manage a day on just 4 or 5 hours sleep without slumping. I walk on average 8 miles a day, even if Ive been on my feet all day I like to get a mile or two in , just to clear the mind. I work with a bunch of your people, Im older then some of their grandparents yet they are the ones keeping up with me

Now it hasn't always been like that , in my last job it was junk food morning noon and night ( was in a cold wet factory , food was a comfort ) and I was constantly knackered and reaching for even more sugar and more fat to keep me going - chocolate and crisps, sausage rolls and cakes. Now its protein and fruit and veg and whilst I dont drink enough I do manage a couple of glasses of sugar free diluting rather then the cans of pop

Oh btw, Im doing my first marathon this year for my 60th :)

Honestly, I'm the same, although, I do be really busy for maybe 4 to 6 days and then completely crash!! And when I crash, I really do not want to move 🤭🤭🤭
My late mum used to say, 'must do is a good master '! 🤞🤞🤞

I dont drink 2 litres a day because if I did, I’d be up in the night for a wee.
You say you don’t feel the motivation to change, so nothing will change as it has to come from you.
First, get that vit D and a vit B complex (for energy) and take them every day. Try and do it every day for one week, keep them next to the kettle or your toothbrush. Then see if it’s become a habit, if it has, add one more thing and keep going.

Suki, I'm in awe too!!

I have started taking a vit d and multivitamin and I'm trying to drink more water today. Even did a few minutes of exercise. Hopefully it will last.

I've been taking vitamin D, C and B12 religiously and over time I think that has helped (it's not a quick win) but the best thing I did was to start eating a decent breakfast. I now have porridge, overnight oats or greek yoghurt and fruit and I'm feeling so much better for it. It's like my brain is in gear and feels less foggy. I used to eat either a cereal bar or a packet of crisps for breakfast so I guess for me it had quite an impact when I improved it! I then try to avoid anything too carby for lunch as that slows me down.

I'm not doing anything too impressive though, I still find it impossible to fit in any exercise. However I drink a decent amount of water and cutting right down on alcohol has helped.

Giving up caffeine and also decaf coffee, energy slumps disappeared.
Losing weight has been great too.

Vit D, magnesium glycinate, iron levels checked and restored to a good level (if you need to, take ferrous sulphate with vitamin c tablet as soon as you wake up, leave it two hours before you consume anything else, every 48hrs).

Also if you're on HRT, testosterone.

If you are nearly 40 check if you need vaginal oestrogen (doesn't count as HRT) as it will strengthen the wall of your vagina and bladder and stop the nighttime wees. I drink 3ltrs a day and don't get up for a wee in the night any more.

Maybe try switching to decaf tea gradually and see if it makes any difference .

Try Redbush/rooibos tea OP. Great hot or cold as an alternative to regular black leaf tea. Or green tea with mint (I usually add a bag of each in the cup/teapot. And still enjoy your regular tea in between these. 🌹

There are no magic fixes. The answer is to develop good habits. Unfortunately that's hard because you won't see an immediate magic difference. The results accumulate over years or even decades. So your motivation is thinking about what you want to be in a few decades' time.

Atomic Habits is a good read for developing good habits.

No one needs to spell out the lifestyle changes you need to make - you know all that stuff. You just need to do it.
