Evening all. OK we might be mad! But we are planning to drive to turkey for the first time this summer to go across Turkey and go to South East to visit DHs family.

Please can anyone share their tips for surfing with kids! The best apps that don't need to be connected to Internet for videos etc. We have disney plus but for some reason the videos won't download on any of the devices!

Any travel hacks? We are planning to spread the journey on about a week there and the same back and staying 3 weeks traveling around Turkey.

Kids will be 5, 7, 9 and 10.

Any tips would be most appreciated!

Thank you

We don’t go as far as Turkey the furthest we’ve gone is South of France and back. Tbh if you can fly that’s better! It’s nice stopping off places along the way but you have to decide how much driving you can get done in one day. I think we maxed out at about 4-5 hours a day. It gets a lot. You can download from Disney, we also let them pick music, we tried audiobooks. Booking nice hotels and places to eat in the evening after a day’s long driving helped.

Thank you! Dh has wanted to drive to his family for about 10 years and I have now agreed as the kids are older. We haven't been able to go at all and what the kids to spend time all-over. His families area is in a remote village. So only planning to be with hem for about 1 week

I did it 17 years ago with a 4 year old and a 3 month old! We drove to Italy and then took overnight ferry from Bari to Greece and then drove through to Istanbul. Stopped overnight in Switzerland on the way. My advice - pack a smaller bag with things you will need on the journey, plan a realistic driving schedule and take time to have plenty of stops on the way. It wasn't too stressful and actually quite good fun! You can vary route back and go through other mainland countries to get a really good trip in!

ok. Just thought if you have all that time maybe fly and hire a car? Then fly back, of course you guys do what you want lol. Just it’s not terrible but you do get fed up of driving. Not sure how easy it is to cross borders etc

I recommend @cossette's route. You're going to traverse astonishing country whichever way you go, but this route is spectacular, varied, teeming with major history - and offers more 'civilisation' in terms of places to stop, eat and stay. With kids especially, that counts for a lot.

Cannot stress strongly enough that you should limit your driving expectations. Don't aim for more than half of any day (so max five hours) and start planning your stopovers well beforehand. The ex and I once drove around Spain in a fortnight: it was brilliant, but frantically phoning ahead from the car every day took the shine off much of the 'travelling' part for me. Much as I like playing things by ear, I'd overestimated my 'que sera' capacity!

Am envious 😎

Thank you everyone.

Will take all on board! We are starting to plan a d couldn't decide straight driving or to italy and ferry. I am team ferry! So we will look into it further!
