Are wisdom teeth always painful?

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and I've realised today I think my wisdom teeth are coming through. I've no idea if they're impacted or not and just wondered if they can come through "normally" or whether it's always pain and a need to get them removed?

I actually have a dentist appointment next week by total coincidence so I'll ask them, but this is causing so much stress... I've had a lot of pelvic pain recently and this just feels like another thing on top, especially as I imagine pregnancy means options are limited

Just wondering if I should prepare to hear the worst Sad

Mine came through with no pain and cause no issues. I also have overcrowding so I’d have expected issues

Trying to attach an image, so tw for people who don't like to see teeth... It's right at the back, just a tiny bit of white coming through. Feels mildly painful, but hard to tell as I've had a cold/sinus problems recently which have been giving me headaches

One of mine came through when I was pregnant with DS (it was painful, yes, and seemed to go on forever!!) The other 3 have stayed buried.

That said, I do feel like sinus/cold issues make my molars more sensitive and swollen and I every time I have a bad cold I think another one is coming through.. but I'm over 40 now so I've probably got all the wisdom I'm gonna get 😅

BeansMeansBeans · 21/01/2024 19:21

@MorphandMindy was it very painful? Did you just manage it with paracetamol?

Well I was pregnant so there was not a lot else I could take!

And I drank a lot of ice cold water and held bits of ice in my mouth to numb the gum.
I think it was almost a couple of weeks before it settled. I remember going out for lunch with friends and my gums were so swollen at the hinge of the jaw that I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to bite into my food. It's bloody miserable, you have my sympathy!

...but this too shall pass!

I have all 4 of mine, don’t remember them coming in and they’ve never caused me any grief
