Eurocamps?

I know nothing about them, but DC have seen TV adverts and decided they want to go! We're currently thinking about summer holiday options, so if anyone has any feedback on them, please let me know.

I can't speak for today but we used to go every year when I was a child in the 90s and I have such fond memories of those holidays. We stayed in the tents and just had a wonderful time on the campsite.

Where do you want to go? Are you planning to drive or fly? Do you want a site with lots to do on site or somewhere quieter? Do you want to be near a beach?
There are loads of 'Eurocamp style 'campsites' across France and some elsewhere in Europe, Eurocamp are just one brand. I'd recommend finding a site that you like and booking direct rather than with Eurocamp as you can often get better accommodation for less money! Look at Yelloh holiday villages, Sandaya camping or Castel Camping for lots of options.

We use them in France all the time. They are great way to have an affordable holiday and it's great environment for children to have freedom. Facilities tend to be great. We rend to book ones next to a big lake so we can go swimming/watersports

I really don't know anything, the TV ads (obviously) make them look very appealing. I have a 4 and 6 yo, so they're looking at the pictures of pools and water slides and I'm thinking if it's camping it will be more affordable.

I like to idea of driving so we could go and see other things while we are there.

We really enjoyed eurocamps when our three were young. I would suggest stretching to a caravan onsite rather than the tent... just for ease of washing up, showering and going for a wee in the night. Unless tents is the a big part of the appeal?

I grew up on Eurocamp holidays and they are my happiest memories. We always drove, sometimes as far as Italy and Austria, but mostly to France. Having your own car gives you great flexibility to chuck anything in rather than be restricted by a fly drive. The sites can vary. Some are HUGE and have so much going on, others much smaller and quieter. Les Mouettes and Dol de Bretagne stick in my mind, unsure if Eurocamp are still there but worth a look.

You won’t regret going!

Hedgehogsaremything · 21/01/2024 08:56

Depending where you're driving from the overnight ferry to St Malo was one of my kids favourite parts of the holiday!

TiredArse · 21/01/2024 08:57

Eurocamp are not particularly cheap these days as they have very few tents, it’s mostly caravans. Canvas used to be a bit cheaper but they have now been taken over by eurocamp. However, if you can go the last week of school holidays it can be quite a lot cheaper.

As someone else suggested it can be better to book direct - the accommodation may also be better.

We love Eurocamp. Go every year in France (and I did the same as a kid). We normally go to a few different campsites in the one trip as I love variety. You can book it all with travel as a package if you ring them so you get the ABTA protection.

There is lots of variety with small, quiet camps to big, active ones with massive pool complexes.

I would recommend getting on the Facebook group Eurocamp Unofficial Supporters Club. Then post with your requirements or questions about specific camps and you’ll get lots of good recommendations!

Pepperama · 21/01/2024 09:07

Yes we went a few years ago when my son was younger and loved it. Single child so it was great for him to make friends, and facilities were good. Another poster mentioned Les Mouettes and Dol de Bretagne - that’s the same we went to.

boysmuminherts · 21/01/2024 09:11

Yes I totally recommend eurocamp. We have driven to a few in France (Loire, Dordogne, Normandy) and also flown to the South of France and Spain. For a bargain, go May HT.

determinedtomakethiswork · 21/01/2024 09:24

We loved going on that sort of holiday. We went with a company called Matthews. I think they are still running now. It was a lot cheaper than Euro camp but on the same sites and with similar facilities.

Newname2308 · 21/01/2024 09:24

We love Eurocamp too! If you book via Topcashback you get about 5% back I think 👍
As others have said, there are other companies and you can book direct with the campsites. However, having done all of these options I still rate Eurocamp. The low deposit and ability to spread the cost, plus the cashback, is very useful.
If you’re keen to drive/ferry, I would probably look at an area you feel comfortable driving to, perhaps no more than 2 hrs from the ferry port. Then get on the map setting of Eurocamp destinations and start researching.
One tip: make sure you pick accommodation with AC. It’s a pointless saving to go for slightly cheaper accommodation without it - believe me, you’ll need it after a day in the sun!

We’ve been away with Eurocamp every summer for the last ten years and are back this summer and think they’re great. It’s not necessarily a cheap holiday any more and mostly caravans but I love the freedom to do what we want when we want.

There are a lot of sites so I’d think about a few things that are important to you. Eg will you drive or fly. If driving how far are you willing to drive from the port. If flying will you hire a car or do you want to have everything in walking distance. Do you want to be in/by a town or are you happy to be in the middle of nowhere. Do you want to be by a beach. That sort of thing. I’d also recommend the Eurocamp Unofficial Supporters Group on Facebook for advice.
