What to do with curly hair and regular workouts. Don't want to wash it more

So finally I have found products that work with my hair. It's gone from fine and fly away to defined fuller curls and I only have to wash my hair every 5 days. But when I wash it I have to twizle each curl to help them to define then when it's dry I split all the curls once. It's time consuming but since it's only every 5 days it's totally worth it.

The problem I've got now is that I do a 15 mins on my exercise bike 3 times a week first thing in the morning sometimes which makes my scalp gets a bit clamy, I wouldn't say full on sweat drips though. So far I've not been doing anything about that. But obviously it's not hygienic. I really don't want to wash my hair anymore.

What should I do?

I see no option than to wash it more. Dry shampoo doesn’t work IMO

I would just wash it and find a quicker way to style your hair. You have my sympathy because I have to wash mine daily because of horse riding and cycling.

I used to have super short hair to cope but have gone longer and just accept that I will have to fit in the extra work to make it presentable.

Which products work?!

I have curly hair & love exercise and spend a lot of time with dirty hair scraped back!!

If it's first thing in the morning, wash your hair after that, water and conditioner only. I do that daily anyway and only shampoo once a week.

I'd be finding a way of doing my hair that wasn't such a faff to be blunt.

I have curly hair and never really understood all the faff around 'curly girl' etc. I wash my hair. I condition it. I use a wee bit of frizz ease. I put some mousse on it. I scrunch it up a bit, diffuse it and it's fine to be left to dry by itself. Takes five minutes to style it.

If I was having to do what you do all the time, I would tie it back in a braid everyday.

I get it OP. I have curly hair that takes ages to dry.

Honestly, I would just exercise and not wash my hair afterwards. If it's 15 minutes on an exercise bike and getting a big clammy that's no more than would happen on a strenuous walk up a hill, and I wouldn't think to wash my hair after that. I am not as hygiene-conscious as some on here though!

I bought the bounce curl defining brush and I really like it. I don't finger curl any of my hair and the brush has grooves on the sides that help it clump in small sections. It was pricey as it came from the states and delivery took a while but I have to say it is a really nice brush. I think if you are having to twirl and separate your curls it sounds like too much work. You may need to learn to like them with lower maintenance. Have a look at curlvision on Insta.

Yep same. I got into a similar routine and was doing more than getting a bit clammy and I just started leaving it.

it’s been absolutely fine. I think because curly hair is dryer it doesn’t look greasy. It does take a bit of getting used to psychologically.

Honestly I’d just try leaving it and see what it’s like.

I work out 4 times a week and like you I get clammy rather than pouring with sweat. I wash my very thick curly hair every 4-5 days

LatteFlatte · 27/01/2024 20:29

Don't worry about it.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/01/2024 20:54

I've found a really good dry shampoo in Holland and Barrett. It's in a cardboard tube and you apply it with your hand (shake it out rather than spray it).

bumtrumpet · 27/01/2024 21:00

I tie mine up in a bun while I'm spinning and pray that it isn't going to get sweaty enough to need a wash. I wash it as little as possible because it's such a faff

FusionChefGeoff · 27/01/2024 21:18

I mostly leave it but sometimes I do sweatier work outs / runs and on those days I do a quick wash and conditioner and then just whack it up.

Proper wash the next day.

CRbear · 28/01/2024 08:39

Just leave it. I do, curly hair doesn’t tend to look greasy

KevinDeBrioche · 28/01/2024 08:41

i pop mine up in a high pony / bun and wear a headband. sometimes a folded over wide one which is even better. then after working out I leave it up there until all the sweat is dry and then take it out. works really well. just don't start messing with it when you are still sweaty, always wait. I quite like the streched out curl look which helps!

I have curly hair and do a HITT class or run several times a week. I tied my hair back to exercise. I shower with my hair tied back still. Don't wash it. Pat it dry with a towel. Scrunch in some leave in conditioner and a bit of curl cream of some sort. Comb it with a wide tooth comb. Leave it to sit dry and I'm good to go.

I do wash it occasionally, but it looks and feels much better if it's a bit dirty. May wash it once every 10 days, and I never "rinse and repeat".

I have long curly hair and wash it once a week. At the gym, I just pile it up into a bun. I don’t notice any ‘clamminess’ to be honest, but my hair is better when not squeaky clean.
