Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my spot, and about to take my tablets with it. The washer's on already for uniform and work clothes. I'm sure dd2 will be up shortly to tell me alllll about the stream of Adele, from Vegas, that she got up to watch last night. For now it's quite peaceful though 😊

I'm taking dd2 into town this morning to pick up birthday cards and wrapping paper for dd1's 17th 🤯 birthday on Thursday. We might pop into a few other shops and have a Costa before heading home.

Dd1's college day was quite disrupted yesterday, by various things, so she didn't get as much college work done as she wanted. So I think she was going to do the majority of that today, while we're out.

Not sure what's for tea yet - I'm hoping someone else takes it upon them to look & decide after a conversation about "you're both a bit more grown up now so can chip in a bit more please" last night. We'll see before I crack on & do it.

Tonight it's more of my book and Murdle for me. I'm struggling on murder 40 🤔 I cannot work out how to place the actual murderer in the right location (I looked at the answer eventually, last night). I might consider some crochet too - I haven't picked up my blanket project in a while.

What about all of you? 🙂

MissMarplesNiece I thrive on lists!

Peridot1 · 20/01/2024 10:10

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. Love these threads.

Ive had my usual lazy morning. Had boiled eggs and toast for breakfast. I should go to the gym but probably won’t. I struggle with the motivation to go out when it’s so cold. I just want to hibernate!

I do need to go to the supermarket for a few things though.

Need to do the dishwasher and vacuum. And do a brain dump list of all the things I need to do over the next few weeks so I can feel a bit more in control. And actually get things done.

Dinner tonight is a Thai yellow curry cooked by DH. And wine.

Crunchymum · 20/01/2024 10:14

Joint birthday party for my youngest two today. They aren't twins and it's a family party but they have 18 first cousins (only 10 are coming) plus adults..... its going to be a long afternoon!!

Ordering in pizza's and setting up a gaming area for the older cousins so this will make it easier. Lots of Prosecco and nibbles for the adults. Lots of cake and sweeties for the kids - God help me!!

lucysmam · 20/01/2024 10:14

@MissMarplesNiece I feel like that sometimes & definitely find lists helpful. Same if my kitchen's a mess - I have to clean it up to be able to think calmly & be productive!

Right, washer's finished & second load in. Dd2's been down tell me alll the Adele things from last night. I've added eyes to my Lunar New Year peg dolls so they're ready to varnish later on. Time to move & get dressed & off to town...

Got back last evening from being away for a week, went overseas to see older son. Life has been tough for him for the last few years and now I am so happy he is in a job he enjoys and has found a lovely Mexican girl. So this morning is emptying suitcase, washing etc. Plus doing DH's washing for the week as well.....

Whattheduck · 20/01/2024 10:19

gano · 20/01/2024 10:20

Doing a bit of cleaning before I have a shower. Then I'm off to visit my Auntie and my Dad afterwards. Will drop into Iceland on the way home, to pick up a curry (love their curries!), and then I've got my neighbour coming over tonight for a catch up.

PandaChopChop · 20/01/2024 10:22

Morning everyone, I look forward to these threads every week!
DCs and I have had a lovely relaxed morning in bed, I've just got up and put a wash and the dishwasher on and finished my first coffee.
We need to go out and do a big food shop so DD (is a big lover of organising) is just going through the zombie apocalypse cupboard to tell me what we need. I was diagnosed with reactive arthritis a few weeks ago and still struggling to get down to cupboard level so she's being very helpful!

DD has asked if we can go to DMs house later so need to plan in Gladiators and dinner. Can't choose between fajitas, jerk or peri peri chicken!

keojam80 · 20/01/2024 10:24

Phoned in sick because I've got an awful chesty cough, aches, feel so run down.

Dd 19 months also has it and hasn't been sleeping great. She's really grumpy and upset so have just made an nhs 24 appt for midday. She is prone to ear infections so just getting her checked.

I have already ate the left overs from last nights indjan.

I am so ready to feel normal again

Kim82 · 20/01/2024 10:25

Morning all. I’m currently at a bowling birthday party with dd9 for one of her friends. Only 1.5 hours to go until I can go home…

It’s dh’s birthday today and he is at work in the pouring rain so that’s nice for him. When I get home I need to tackle the huge pile of washing I have and clean downstairs ready for when dh’s family visit. Stir fry for tea for me tonight, the girls are having sausage and mash and dh is off out for tea and some drinks.

I’m not drinking at the minute so I’m staying in and have my sister and a friend coming round for a few hours then I’ll drop them home later.

Morewineplease10 · 20/01/2024 10:27

Going out for breakfast when i cba.
Then food shop and jobs around the house.
Will meet a friend for coffee and a stroll if I can fit it in.

lorn195 · 20/01/2024 10:33

On my 3rd cup of coffee as it's part of DH's coffe subscription and it's lovely.

DS is 17 today so we have been up since 9.30am. He's opened his presents and he is over the moon. He's also seen his new trainers will be delivered today so he's really made up.

I'm taking him to referee his football match of 2024 so I will be popping into the city to have a look around and pop into Tesco's for some milk.

We are planning to have a chilled evening so I'm making tacos (DS's favourite).

FlorencenotRatchet · 20/01/2024 10:46

Morning @lucysmam and all.
@SandyWaves, I agree this thread has become a regular part of my weekend and look forward to seeing what everyone is up to.
Just back from Parkrun. Possibly a PB for me today so fingers crossed.
Just put some washing on then off to meet a friend for lunch and a mooch around the shops.

Iamnotaloggrip · 20/01/2024 10:48

Morning all. I’ve a busy day with DD - at her gym class this morning, then straight to a party afterwards. She’s at the optician after that.

DP and DS are (hopefully) doing his homework this morning and then will go to the football this afternoon.

Curry for tea and we’ll probably watch gladiators again as they loved it last week.

Happy Saturday everyone!

cerisepanther73 · 20/01/2024 10:52

@lucysmam

Good morning and everyone else too

Just about to text email friends to see what they are up to and arrange a catch up at a cafes hopefully soon,
as been out of mingling socialising for a while been trying to shake off virus head cold,

Also eagerly waiting to see how 🤔 my sons night out when last night too..

Arabaloosa · 20/01/2024 10:59

Morning all. Was up early checking on the horses and sheep, making sure they are all ok after the snow we had over the last few days. All looking miserable now it's changed to wind and heavy rain though. Went and did a shop, then home and coffee and fresh pastries for breakfast. The log burner is going, and the dog has declined a walk in favour of heat hogging! Pottering about the house for the rest of the day until I bring in the horses for the night to give them a break from the weather and the sheep some peace from them!

FlorencenotRatchet · 20/01/2024 11:03

ShipshapeShore · 20/01/2024 09:06

Your Saturdays always sound calm and cosy. I will inevitably and boringly spend all day trying to tidy the house and clean round all the stuff everywhere as usual. Sigh. An awful week at work has left me feeling sad and anxious so I'm very much looking forward to reading about everyone's plans! Enjoy your Saturday all whatever you're up to 😊.

Shipshape sorry you've had a stressful week.
Make sure you take some time for self care even if it's something small like a walk or treating yourself to coffee and cake.

jenny1209 · 20/01/2024 11:07

Feeling a bit tired as DS5 was up in the night with a sickness bug. He’s spending the day watching Disney films with DH, he only wants his dad when he’s poorly.
I’ve had a tennis lesson this morning which was a challenge in these winds! Great way to start the day and blow the cobwebs off though.
I went to IKEA yesterday and bought a desk and extra bookcase for DD9 so will be building those and attempting to bring some order to her room.
Also doing all the laundry, will send DH down to M&S for something indulgent for dinner tonight . Looking forward to all snuggling up with the kids to watch Gladiators and The Masked Singer later.

Beezknees · 20/01/2024 11:07

Not much. It's payday on Wednesday and I'm going away next weekend so trying not to spend too much this weekend. I am going to walk into town (I live a 5 minute walk away) to grab a coffee as I have a money off thing on my costa app and DS fancies a greggs pizza slice for lunch. Also need to post something I sold on vinted.

Other than that will be reading, watching telly and slobbing.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 20/01/2024 11:30

Good morning @lucysmam and followers, this is my favourite thread on MN.
was awake before 5am, spent a couple of hours reading in bed before showering and washing my hair.
Dh, dog and I are just back from a 90 minute walk across fields and bridleways around the next village, very peaceful but a biting wind. Dog enjoyed being off lead and doing zoomies, silly sausage 😊
Enjoying a coffee and the last of the panettone from Christmas, then I will think about putting jacket potatoes on for lunch, cba to cook anything else.
I’ve unravelled the sock I started knitting because I can’t get the tension right for using two colours, I will do a helical pattern instead as should be easier, so will get on with that today.
A quiet weekend here.

Eggsley · 20/01/2024 11:30

@OldTinHat can we have a photo of the turtle please? What is his/her name? And happy birthday to your son as well.

@FunkyMonks happy birthday for tomorrow.

In fact, there are lots of birthdays on the thread this weekend - happy birthday to all!

Hope all the ill people and injured dogs are feeling better soon too.

I'll catch up on the rest of the thread later on.

A lazy morning here as both DS2 and DH's football matches were cancelled. I had a day off work yesterday as it was my birthday so it's lovely to have a longer weekend than usual. We are going over to B&Q shortly to get some storage boxes that DH has his eye on for Lego. Then need to pop to Tesco to get lunch and dinner for today.

No plans for this afternoon, hopefully a lazy one either doing Lego (we are halfway through sorting all the DC's sets out) or watching a film. Gladiators later (thanks for the reminder @PurpleSky09) and then we've got to catch up on The Traitors from last night as we went out for a meal and missed it. I've got wine and popcorn so I'm happy! Out for Sunday lunch tomorrow with my parents and auntie to celebrate my (big) birthday which I'm looking forward to!

FunkyMonks · 20/01/2024 11:31

@Eggsley thank you kindly for the birthday wish 😊

DoubleTime · 20/01/2024 11:31

I have an Open Uni assignment due on Monday. So I am procrastinating and reading Mumsnet/random internet info

frozendaisy · 20/01/2024 11:41

Sure :-)

Karinx · 20/01/2024 11:42

I'm currently sat on the sofa sandwiched between two Frenchies 😅 I should be in work but taking a sick day as my morning sickness feels like it's peaking and I have zero energy (I work as a fitness instructor/PT so I'm listening to my body). Probably a lazy day for me as I won't be able to manage much else! A few jobs around the house if I can.
