Dyson airwrap help.

I'm considering getting a Dyson airwrap but I have no idea how they work.
Does anyone here have one?
Do they do the work for you, as in, do they twizzle your hair round the wand, or do you have to do it yourself like you would with normal curling tongs etc?
Do you need a styling product such as mousse?
I have thick shoulder length hair if that helps.
I'm a complete novice here as I normally use hair curlers when I want a curl.
Help please.

I have one. It sucks your hair perfectly smoothly around the wand. I dont know how to attach a link, but there are lots of videos of it on the internet.

I agree, the tutorials were really helpful for me. YouTube has a lot.

Just remember your hair has to be slightly damp, not dry, for it to work.

Thank you. I'll have a look at the tutorials.
I'm just wary of spending a lot of money for something that works in the same way as my tongs, as in doing it manually.

Honestly, it was the biggest waste of money ever. The curls don’t last longer than half an hour but I appreciate that different people have different hair types and different experiences with it. You can return it for a refund within 30 days (I think,) if you’re unhappy. Wish I had returned mine but my daughter nabbed it and uses it as a very expensive hair dryer!

I have very thick hair - it's fairly coarse too. The curls hold indefinitely for me - I only style it once a week.

Try to go to one of the Ararat demos at Westfield or such like. I also recommend buying second hand as they're very expensive

SapphosRock · 20/01/2024 09:03

They are great for volume and beach waves but I also haven't figured out how to make the waves last. They drop after an hour max.

I use product and hairspray which helps a bit.

Isabelle70 · 20/01/2024 09:11

I had one and sold it on as I found the curls would drop too soon and in was hard work doing them all. I have thick long hair that was longer than shoulder length at the time.
My hairdresser got a second hand one and she says it's ok, but the curls drop.
I now have the same curling wand as my hairdresser and with shorter hair I get the beachy waves.
If you do get one check out Dyson direct and QVC as you can return used in a certain amount of time.

SuzieShoo · 20/01/2024 09:37

Thank you everyone.
I'd rather have the opinions of here, than relying on reviews on Amazon etc.
I'll certainly look at second hand ones, I never thought to do that.

Have a look on QVC - they have demo videoes and several Dyson hair products some on Easi-Pay ( instalments )
They have a very good returns policy .

I had one and had to return it as it kept overheating half way through curling my hair. That was when it was about 95% dry.
If it did get all the way round, the curls weren't defined, more volumised waves. Not unpleasant, but not the look I was aiming for.
I loved the drying brush attachment as that gave a hairdresser blow dry style.
I've since bought a couple of separate cheaper appliances that do the styles I was looking for at less than a quarter of the price.

sockmuncher · 20/01/2024 10:45

I hate mine OP and I'm trying to get rid of it. You can have it if you want it?

I'm going back to my trusty Revlon brush.

SuzieShoo · 20/01/2024 11:49

@sockmuncher oh yes please.

I’ve had one for a few years now. If you want curls/waves like a regular curing iron would give you then maybe it wouldn’t be worth it for you.

I use mine to give me a blow out look that you would get from a round brush and a hair dryer. The curls don’t really last but it gives me a bouncy blow dry look that I just can’t do myself with a round brush.
