Just a little backstory.
booked tickets for me, dd and my sister to watch the chelsea v Man U ladies at Stamford bridge, all good… trains decided then they are doing works and are only offering replacement bus service which will take 3 hours, where as a train is only 1 hour.. can’t use the rail replacement bus because dd gets car sick and it’s not fair to her or anyone else on the bus if she’s throwing up on a crowded bus. So DP kindly offered to drive us and has booked himself stuff to do whilst we are at the match. Fine… jump to today, weather warnings have surfaced and all he’s doing is tracking it to see how bad. He’s not the best person to travel with sometimes as he gets anxiety, not from the driving but from other stuff. So now I’m already pissed off, because I know he’s gonna be a nightmare all day sending me weather updates. I’ve checked met office which has mentioned it’s only yellow warning at the time we will be travelling, which is fine, we’ve travelled in worse. He keeps saying met office is shit.
I don’t want to cancel because it’s dd first time going to a football match and it was part of her Christmas present. I don’t want him putting a dampener on the day either with his negativity.

Could you just drive instead?

Oh how annoying. Last thing you want is to be stressed out before you're even there. Not sure if the solution but hope you manage to find one and enjoy the game xx

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/01/2024 00:04

Your DD gets 'car sick' in buses but not in actual, er, cars?

RogueFemale · 20/01/2024 00:08

In your shoes, I'd cancel the whole thing. Six hour round trip isn't worth it and everyone will be stressed out. Book again for another game.

LOL!

Mountainclimber2024 · 20/01/2024 00:34

Have you ever driven or is it a medical thing?

6 hour round trip in stormy weather is not recommended. Can you book a hotel as a compromise and he can relax and recuperate.

HeddaGarbled · 20/01/2024 00:38

Non-drivers always think drivers are being fusspots about weather warnings, but it’s not them who have to drive in the shitty weather. Driving in shitty weather is unpleasant and sometimes scary.

Where did she say that? I assume she gets sick in both. The op just said it would be unfair her getting sick on the bus as it will be unpleasant for other passengers and probably embarrassing for her

Yes, this is what stood out to me as well.

OP, cancel and go when trains are running.

Dont make someone else drive 6 hours in bad weather conditions.

TequilaNights · 20/01/2024 01:32

I dont see why keeping an eye on weather warnings is a bad thing.

That's exactly what they are there for, warnings for danger to life, damage and disruption, roads and bridges possibly closed.

He sounds sensible to be considering your safety and the impact it could have.

Nope, I don’t drive….

Then cut the driver some slack if you’re unable to be of use in getting your family there.

Mindovermatter247 · 20/01/2024 06:30

Not a 6 hour round trip, that’s just how long the bus takes. It’s only 4 hours. I’m not saying he shouldn’t keep an eye, but he asks me 3ven though he’s the driver and then send me messages non stop. We are going in the morning and should be leaving well before it’s supposed to get bad.

Why can’t you drive? Never learnt or do you have health reasons? Have you ever driven?

Whinge · 20/01/2024 10:04

Presumably he will be driving you home again though? It might be fine when you leave but several hours later on the return journey the weather could be much worse.

This.

HalloumiGeller · 20/01/2024 10:17

Personally I'd rebook, as I completely understand (as a driver myself) why he is anxious about a 4hr round trip in bad weather, as trust me, its grim and scary! And that's coming from someone who has been driving for almost 19 years!

What I don't understand is, why does your daughter get travel sick on a bus but not in the car? That doesn't make any sense to me.

Squirrelsonthescaffolding · 20/01/2024 10:30

Slightly off topic but do you know about the Hypaclean travel sick bags? Waterproof lined paper bags. Took me over a decade of travel sick DC before I discovered them and they’ve made an unpleasant thing a lot less unpleasant and more discreet.

She does get travel sick in a car, just it’s a bit more private than being on a crowded bus…

Yep we have them in the car, they stay in her side of the car in the door. we try the tabs, the bands…. She’s got better over the years but it’s still not nice for anyone.

Edited

Just never learnt, I’ve wanted to, money had prevented that but now, I’m quite happy going on public transport when DP isn’t around, I very rarely ask him, he always offers.
