I wanted something a bit different. It will be in my bedroom.

70s with a hint of Stephen king?

It made me think of The Overlook Hotel straightaway...

mjf981 · 19/01/2024 20:15

I hate it. The colours, the pattern, everything. Sorry OP!

In all honestly OP, i’m not sure you can square caring what opinion strangers might have of your wallpaper, with not knowing any of their fairly common cultural references they have for why they like or dislike it. If you don’t have any of the same film & TV experience just go with what YOU like.

I’m the same age as you and immediately thought Abigail’s Party too, which i quite admire, but now Outlook Hotel has been mentioned i cant unsee that!

Yeah I know to go with what I like . It's just general really. Just know I want something different.

I had never heard of abigails party till now . Not heard of the other things been mentioned either. There's loads of things I don't remember about childhood . Holidays etc. So probably normal for me not to have heard of a film tv programme

I love it op. But the only thing that matters for your bedroom is that you love it! 😀If it makes you smile each time you walk in your room it will be worth it.

Be aware that with patterns like though that it can be a bit of a pain trying to match the pattern as you put each sheet up. I saw the great job you did on your sons room though so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Don't worry about the cultural references that you don't get. I'm sure there are things that you think of as common knowledge that other people won't understand. We have all had different experiences through life.

JaninaDuszejko · 20/01/2024 20:24

If you don't watch Abigail's Party and immediately want the room divider were you even alive in the 70s?

@Shamefullhouse can you link a picture of your son's room because I repeatedly see it referenced in your threads but I completely missed that. And agree, in your lovely big bedroom it will look great.

Doingmybest12 · 20/01/2024 20:40

It's a bold choice but in the bedroom who will care but you. It's the kind of thing that will divide opinion so you just have to do it if you love it as there will always be those who hate it. I think if you are the sort of person who cares what others think or decorate to please others then you wouldn't contemplate this.

Jf20 · 20/01/2024 20:54

If I’m brutally honest and you really want opinions, then I live wallpaper, there are so many beautiful ones out there now, but for me, this isn’t one of them and it looks cheap. Like the 20 quid a roll stuff you get at b&Q.

Hideous!

TheChosenTwo · 20/01/2024 21:57

It’s certainly very impactful and it’s only wallpaper, it’s not like you’re knocking walls down etc, if you change your mind you just tear it down and paint or paper again!

It's really nice, where is it from please?

Shamefullhouse · 20/01/2024 21:57

Ok

It’s just taste op, your kids room is lovely, great job, personally I prefer something a little more muted in the bedroom. But we all are different,

NoMumLeftBehindLiz · 20/01/2024 22:13

Interior designer friend once told me that if you are only going to wallpaper one wall in a bedroom it should be the one behind the head of the bed. Apparently the eye is naturally drawn to that wall when you enter the room anyway so a "feature" wall elsewhere feels confusing.

IHS · 20/01/2024 22:22

Oh heck no, I remember stuff like that from the first time around 🫣😂

If you really like it, go for it though but be prepared to change it after a year

Saz12 · 20/01/2024 22:26

I like the 70's vibe, I like bold paper, but for me theres something a little depressing in the pattern vs colours - possibly the colours are dusty muted tones but the pattern is fake-cheerful.

LightSpeeds · 20/01/2024 22:51

Jessforless · 19/01/2024 18:02

It is a bit Overlook hotel… but I’d like it on one wall.

Blimey, you don't want to be thinking about that when you're going to bed... 🧟

Copperoliverbear · 20/01/2024 23:03

Just the wall behind the headboard.

fussychica · 20/01/2024 23:08

OMG DH said he sold that very wallpaper, or one very, very similar, when he had a Saturday job on a market stall in the 70s😀If that's your thing go with it.

2024GarlicCloves · 20/01/2024 23:12

It's very Gen Z! Also very 1970s, but that's prehistory to the young 'uns.

You need some pastel-coloured mushrooms and squiggle-framed mirrors, OP.

Nowayjose123 · 20/01/2024 23:16

Takes me right back to my childhood in 1970s Manchester.
All brown and orange with violent undertones of migraine!

2024GarlicCloves · 20/01/2024 23:18
