Anyone got a Miele 9kg machine and is it big enough to wash a 13 tog King size duvet?

Cat with sensitive tummy and I'm getting bored of taking duvet to the launderette.

We have an 8kg machine and no way would I put it in there. It would be stuffed in and wouldn't have room to wash properly. So I am thinking of buying a 10KG machine. However, we had always promised ourselves a Miele machine when we moved into our 'forever' home! It looks like Miele only go to a 9KG, but the blurb says '45 shirts', also 'King Size duvet'.

Has anyone got a Miele 9kg and successfully washed a King size duvet, ideally 13 togish?

Thank you!

I've got a 9kg machine, different make but I wouldn't dream of risking washing my king-size duvet in it. Take it to the launderette so you don't have to worry about buying a new washing machine.

I have a 9kg different make. It takes a bulky single 13 tog, OR 2 much less bulky 10tog doubles. I wouldn't risk any more than that.

Sometimes it's about weight - but often just the space. I do t think there is much difference in the drum size from a 7 to a 9kg.

If something is too big - such as a sleeping bag, it is underweight, can be stuffed in, but is so bulky the water didn't penetrate all the way through so didn't wash properly.

Absolutely not

Depends what it is filled with. I wouldn't risk it with feather and down but I might take a chance with hollowfibre.

You will also need a large capacity tumble dryer and a load of tennis or dryer balls to pummel it back into shape.

I have a 9 kg Bosch and I wouldn't put a king size duvet in it. I use Laundry Heap. Costs under £25 inc. collection and delivery.

I bought a machine a few weeks ago and being able to wash a double was important to me. From what I read, 9kg for a double was typical. I went with an 11 (not Miele but surely drum sizes are pretty universal? It's either deeper or bigger diameter)
I'd check the opening space too. Was tricky enough to get our duvet through the wee door!

I work in houses of middle-upper class people. I’ve used many different washing machines, Miele are quite popular and I know some love them but I’ve never been impressed. I even wrote to them once about their godawful auto wash detergent system. You’ll get machines just as good if not better for much less. I use a hotpoint machine myself at the moment (my partner chose it) and it’s pretty fab. We have a Bosch heat pump dryer that’s excellent.

but that aside, no, you won’t get that duvet in there. My 10 tog double just about goes in 9kg hotpoint but bigger wouldn’t fit in the slightest.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 19/01/2024 14:52

Yeh, I do this quite frequently with my 9kg machine. Probably not meant to, though.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 19/01/2024 14:54

I’ve got a Miele 9kg. I don’t even put the 13.5tog Doubles in - attempted it but thought it was too full, so took it to the laundrette.

I think I've put our 10 tog feather duvet in the 9kg LG washing machine a couple of times

I washed a 4 tog feather double in our 9kg washing machine along with a feather pillow, it was fine. Is your duvet feather or hollowfibre as they tend to be bulkier? Ideally you need something for it to spin ‘against’, I find one large item on its own doesn’t spin well.

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/01/2024 15:15

I’ve got a 9kg different brand and there’s no way it would fit our duvet in it.

Piggybank36 · 19/01/2024 15:51

Duvet protector this might be helpful.

whirlyhead · 19/01/2024 15:57

I have a 10 kilo machine and I can’t fit a king size duvet in it! I used to have a miele 10 kilo and that definitely didn’t fit one in.

I’ve got that machine and have washed feather duvets in king size. But only 4.5. Tog or 9 tog.
Pretty sure a 13 tog would not fit.

I have the same cat issue, I bought a plastic tarpaulin thing from Amazon for about £9 which is put on the bed in the day. He only weed on it again once and the duvet stayed dry and he must have got wet feet and not done it since.

Jarstastic · 19/01/2024 16:14

Thanks all! Much appreciated. Looks like not going to be goer. I was going to go down to the local Euronics to look at other brand 10kg and 11kg but maybe that's not worth it either. At least the machines in the laundrette are fast :-)

@MattDamon The laundrette will collect and and drop back the next day for £15. However, only collects once a week and I don't want a duvet sitting around till then. I also want to pretreat with Vanish (microfibre)or Ace (for the down duvet which can't have enzymes) and put some dettol in the fabric dispenser. I can't really expect them to do all that!

@KirstenBlest Not practical, unfortunately.

@Piggybank36 Thank you! I had bought one but it got through slightly. The one I got was 'water resistant' rather than 'waterproof' so I shall try this one. I was looking at it yesterday I think on Amazon.
