Oncology MDT report - any experience?

Hi all. I wonder if I could pick your brains if you have had any experience of being the subject of an oncology MDT meeting.

The history is I have been diagnosed with some endometrial pre cancerous changes and my case was referred to an MDT. My consultant told me their conclusions but also recommended that I should have a read of the report myself.

It has been a bureaucratic nightmare trying to get this (even though it is my right to see it). After a month what they have sent me is a single piece of paper and the only thing that describes any course of action is this "see in clinic, mirena coil or hysterectomy". This is literally it. There is no explanation or detail of how this conclusion was reached. Also no advice on risks or benefits of each option.

What I'm wondering is - is this genuinely the 'report' or have they mistakenly sent me some kind of summary top sheet or similar. I must admit I was expecting a bit more than a single sentence. It also seems at odds with some of the detail that the consultant gave me which he said came from the MDT.

If anyone can shed any light I'd be grateful. Unfortunately though I could ask the consultant I don't have an appointment for a while. He is also not that helpful and very high handed I'm sad to say.

Thanks in advance.

I’d get hold of the consultant’s secretary. Unless you have access to a specialist nurse they tend to be the best

At an MDT meeting, the people taking part will review your medical records: e.g. any reports of scans that you have had, any histology reports from biopsies, etc. After they have reviewed those reports/records, they will note their recommendation for the next stage in your pathway - which will usually be further investigations with, say, more imaging (e.g. another scan) or another biopsy, or straight to treatment. The notes arising from that discussion usually are only a line or two, because that's generally all that's needed - it's to document what to do next with your case. Following MDT, your oncologist/surgeon/consultant should explain to you what will happen next. So yes, the upshot of a lot of MDT meetings can be a single line - but that comes after they have thoroughly reviewed your case and your investigation results, along with the NICE Guidelines.

If it reassures you at all, pre-cancerous cells are really easily treated and cured. Wishing you all the very best.

Hi OP, do you have a specialist nurse? Give them a call or email and ask the question, they'll also be able to talk you through it.

Looks right, it's only ever really a summary of the recommended action.
