Fiat 500 alternatives

My lovely little corsa has given up the ghost. It can get a new part, but seeing as I broke down in the middle of a 40 mph dual carriageway with toddler in the back- I’ve lost faith in it. It was a 2006 and had done 150k miles so it’s served me well.

I have about £5k to buy a new car. Needs to be ulez compliant. Due to budget I imagine this will be around 10 years old- 2012-2014 ish?

I don’t mind if it’s 3 door. I have a 360 car seat and toddler is good at climbing in there herself and waiting for me to do the straps.

I like the fiat 500s, but I think that’s only because it’s quite cute and popular 😑 I live in a busy city with lots of street parking and big hills, so really need something small and nippy. I like smart cars too. But tbh, I don’t know MUCH about cars so wondering if anyone could recommend something?

Any idea on cars in budget that are:

fairly green- euro 5/6 minimum
petrol
‘dinky’ in size

i only need enough space for a baby zen yo-yo and a bag for life in the back- we have a large estate car for long drives and big shopping trips.

Fiat 500s are great (have hired a few on holiday) but hate hills. Was overtaken by a lorry on the Nice bypass once, for example.

Vauxhall Adam? My mate used to have one and I loved driving it. 😂

Probably outing my Ford Ka was written off, and i was given a Fiat 500 as a replacement courtesy car which I loved. When the money came through to buy a new car

I test drove Fiat 500, Skoda citigo, Vauxhall Adam and ended up with a Toyota Aygo. Only reason I didn't go with a Fiat 500 was because the only one available had cream leather interior and I'm rather messy and confident think it was practical.

VW Up

Fab, nippy, esp the gti or tsi. Don't go wrong, much loved by owners.

Oh yes DM has one of those I've used on occasion. It is a great little car

VW Up, Toyota Aygo and Skoda Citigo are all the same. Worth a look.

As you can see from my user name, I’m a massive fan of Smart cars. Had a few Fiat 500s and have a 500 sport at the moment, they’re okay but my little Smart ForTwo convertible was the best fun ever. Great for driving around town, nippy enough to go on the motorway if needed. Fairly cheap to run and insure. Plus it was automatic. Word of warning though, replacement exhausts are very expensive!
