Is a long-sleeve swimming costume warmer than a usual one?

Just that really. Does it help you keep your body temperature?
I'm not talking about professional diving/surfing neoprene ones but the ones made of usual swimming costume fabric. Provided they are tight and fit properly?

It is basically for a long exercise in the swimming pool

IME no. You need a thermal rashie or neoprene to keep warm. Look at twobarefeet or lomo. Is it definitely your arms and not your hands that need help?

@unsync it is for my DD aged 6. She gets cold in the swimming pool. Not her fault. They have problems with the boiler and the temperatures are out of norm.
I want to get her smth for her to be more comfortable. Neoprene is not suitable unfortunately

Not really.

I do wild swimming and have a variety of costumes including an Islamic modest one that is like leggings and a tunic.

Additional swimsuit material makes very little difference to keeping warm.

Slightly when in the water, but I find it colder when out the pool due to the wet fabric. I also have to become a contortionist to get out of it when wet and stuck to my skin...

Favouritefruits · 17/01/2024 10:22

I put my youngest son in a shortie wetsuit for his swimming lessons, he’s just do thin and gets cold really easily.

NinNinJin · 17/01/2024 10:25

Hmm looks like not much difference. The kids have to be on the pool edge for some minutes during the lesson waiting for their turn to jump and they are all shaking. I was hoping it would help to tolerate the chill

Child shortie wetsuits are quite cheap if the pool will permit it.

NinNinJin · 17/01/2024 10:28

@Octavia64 I have an Islamic one. Although perhaps not Islamic as it is tight. It is an overall and fits nicely. I think I found it slightly warmer in the sea. But cannot be sure

@Octavia64 it is more the torso that I was hoping to cover. Long sleeves

If you want torso/long sleeves, then I'd suggest a thermal rash vest over a normal swimsuit

Mumsnut · 17/01/2024 10:31

Can you get something Dryrobe-like for him to wear on the side. ?

Shellingbynight · 17/01/2024 10:37

It may help when in the water, but you say she spends a lot of time sitting on the pool edge, and wearing a wet rash vest will make her feel colder when she's out of the water. I wear a rash vest for sea swimming and always take it off immediately I'm back on land.

Time40 · 17/01/2024 10:40

I wear a long-sleeved rash vest over a costume when swimming outdoors in very cold water, and it makes a big difference.

InTheRainOnATrain · 17/01/2024 10:50

Are the lessons any good if she’s spending that much time shivering on the side? Separate issue though. According to DD6 the long sleeved one makes her cold because it’s wet on her skin?! She was trying to talk her way into a bikini though so not sure you can trust her 🤣
