What was the difference in your G&E utility bills in Aug and Dec?

Just curious as my Dec bill is drastically different to my Aug. Obviously I know you use way more gas and electric in winter but this is the first year I've been on monthly bills rather than topping up meters. Just wondering if the increase is in line with 'normal'.

I have a s art meter for my electric and pay as I go in on standard tariff.

Usage in august was £158 and usage in December was £208

My gas is on a card meter so without looking at a yearly statement I wouldn't know but I know it's huge in nov dec Jan and feb due to central heating and the shower is ran off the gas boiler and teens are forever in there Confused

£240 v £90

Elec is pretty constant all year round, about £4 a day. It’s the central heating that makes the big difference in our house. This is our usage of both.

August £58 for both.

December £150 for both / but the heating is on constantly as I like my dogs and Guinea pigs to have the heating on all day when I’m not there

Electricity (all cooking and usual other electrics, heating & hot water separate - oil).
Dec 2023 £74.
Aug 2023 £16.
I've got solar, Aug was sunny and long days, Dec was NOT sunny and short days.

Oil - no idea, but massive difference as hot water barely uses any compared to the central heating.

gano · 16/01/2024 23:31

August was approx £80.
December was £204.

Notinmylifethyme · 16/01/2024 23:37

I pay £100 each for gas and electric every month. I have a balance. I'm not afraid to use the central heating when I'm home.

It's all relative as different homes cost more or less than others. But I do recommend averaging out your payments, if you can. It really does make life easier.

August total £62.01
gas 7 cubic metres used
elec 107 kWh

December total £167.87
gas 113 cubic metres
elec 188 kWh

Paw2024 · 17/01/2024 00:10

August
Electric £57
Gas £16

December
Electric £56
Gas £44

So £27 difference. I use virtually the same amount of electric every month, just my gas that differs (gas heating, water and hob, oven is electric and use a heated airer and dehumidifier)

Raindancer101 · 17/01/2024 00:15

August was a little under £90 and December was £202.

Becausemymumtoldmeso · 17/01/2024 00:47

Fully electrical house no gas here, also changed to a heat pump to reduce bills (LOL)
August £158 and I was away for 10 days too
December £312
i put the heating on for 2 hours in the evenings, use an air fryer 99% of the time and we stayed at relatives over some weekends.
I’ve been having an ongoing battle with Scottish power for 4 years now- ombudsman gave up trying to get Scottish power to comply to the outcome and I’m stuck with them until a debt of £1000 is paid off. No proof where this debt has come from seeing as I’ve been paying £300 monthly for the last 2 years at least!!

Electric bill is pretty consistent throughout the year. Gas use steadily rises between Autumn to Winter to just over double but I do not use my gas sparingly, so could make some savings. Total bills for winter months is around a third more than rest of the year but I pay monthly so no actual increase in payments as I pay throughout the year and I am on fixed tariff so I know exactly how much it is to keep my house warm. Not a fan of huge surprise bills.

Decafflatteplease · 17/01/2024 08:43

August was £120. December was £320!

We pay £300 by direct debit all year round.

Electric is fairly stable through the year, obviously use the tumble dryer more in winter but the marked difference is the gas in winter for heating. 1800s house, 12 foot ceilings, bag lwindows, the house needs alot of heating!

In terms of the amount of gas used, in December it was over 4 times as much as August. (August was 48, December was 200)

kikilaw · 17/01/2024 10:07

£100 (electric £80) v £300 (electric £170). We were on holiday in August.

Toomuch44 · 17/01/2024 10:34

August:
Electricity £58.94 Gas £17.95 Total £76.95

December
Electricity £66.17 Gas £99.91 Total £166.08

I'm expecting January to be higher as it's been colder!
