Colonoscopy help

Hello! I have to start my colonoscopy prep tomorrow. It’s plenvu. Does anyone have experience with this? The most common side effect is vomiting and I’m already feeling so ill from the low residue diet I’ve been on. I’m so scared. To the point where I just want to cancel but I know I can’t. I have a huge phobia of sick

I had a colonoscopy around 10 weeks ago, I found the prep awful to taste but had lime juice to take alongside it which really helped.
I didn't feel at all sick.
Make sure you take it all, there was a man in at the same time as me who was sent home as he wasn't empty.
I had sedation and didn't feel anything during the procedure but was chatting to the Doctor and the nurses.

Oh I

I didn’t have plenvu but I have had moviprep which you have to drink loads of it so I think it’s similar to plenvu. It tastes horrible and I can imagine that the cause of being sick is because you will be absolutely full of liquid by the end. The instructions I read say to drink it over 60 minutes but I know it took me much longer to get it all down.

Use a straw angled to the back of your throat to miss your tastebuds, chill the stuff in the fridge and have strong lemonade (like 7up) to take the taste away. I had two straws and two glasses on the go so I would have a gulp of prep and a sip of lemonade.

good luck. The prep is the worst bit.

What I mean is being sick is probably not a side effect of the medication but because of the sheer amount you have to drink. You’ll be sloshing.

Crazycatstory · 16/01/2024 21:20

Make it up a bit in advance and get it really cold, add ice to your glass. Drink it with a straw, then you don’t get so much taste as it doesn’t touch so much of your tongue. Ive found having a glass of cold appletiser to take a big slug of straight after taking a big drink of the prep kind of counteracts the nastiness of the prep.

Do you have any baby lotion? Some of that on toilet paper when you are wiping, after things start to feel a bit raw so to speak, is quite soothing. Baby wipes can be a bit stinging. Also, bepanthen cream is very soothing too.

Unlike @MindHowYouGoes I didn't think Moviprep was bad at all and I had no problem drinking it all. Hoping Plenvu is the same for you.
I was really worried about the colonoscopy itself, especially as I have horrific piles, but actually it was nowhere near as bad as I expected. Lots of lovely sedation and I don't remember any of the procedure.

upinaballoon · 16/01/2024 21:34

I think I had Plenvu. It tasted vile but I got it down. Did the instructions say that you can drink water as well? Just persevere with that part and remind yourself that we all had to do it once and we survived it! It didn't make me feel sick.
All best wishes from me and many.
I had cameras down and up but afterwards I was allowed to choose a sandwich and drink a cuppa - the nicest part.

Rocknrollstar · 16/01/2024 21:38

Not being funny but I stopped wiping as I was getting sore and just spent three hours sitting on the loo with a good book drinking Moviprep. I was sedated for the colonoscopy and knew nothing about it.

mindutopia · 16/01/2024 22:03

Make it really cold and drink through a straw. Honestly, it’s not that bad. Everyone says the prep is the worst bit, but I really didn’t find it bad at all. Don’t listen to the horror stories. The colonoscopy itself was frankly not pleasant, but the prep was fine.

MoonWoman69 · 16/01/2024 22:16

I've had 2 colonoscopies, I had Moviprep both times and it was vile! I had a big hug of that and a big jug of orange squash to wash it down! But yes a straw would help! It didn't make me feel sick, just caused all the explosive bottom action!!! Just wait til you ever have to have a barium meal! It's like poohing cement and stays at the bottom of the bowl like it too!!! I'm a self confessed wuss and I did two, you'll be fine, just chug it down and don't think about it. Good luck OP 🤗🤗🤗

We use Plenvu with kids who won't tolerate the larger volumes of the other types of bowel prep. It does seem to be slightly better tolerated than Kleenprep etc.

Me too. I had the orange flavour one it was fine, not unpleasant tasting at all. It was the viscosity that was the worst but all in no where near as I'd read on here.

MoonWoman69 · 17/01/2024 01:26

Don't know why I can't edit my post, but I've just realised it was Kleenprep I had! The texture was awful!

Redglitter · 17/01/2024 01:47

I had Plenvu a few weeks ago & compared to Moviprep it was a dawdle. Its only one litre you have to drink & both sachets are flavoured. I honestly found it no problem compared to previous ones. If I was getting another I'd ask for Plenvu

coxesorangepippin · 17/01/2024 01:48

Don't cancel.

The prep isn't that bad, make sure it's ice cold before you drink it

BayCityCoaster · 17/01/2024 01:54

Try not to build it up in your head - as with anything, the anticipation is worse than the actual event.

Agree with pp that drinking it through a straw makes it much easier.

I’ve had three colonoscopies using Plenvu, and I wasn’t sick with any of them. The first one was the worst and I did feel nauseous towards the end of drinking the prep for that one, but I didn’t use a straw.

That was 10 years ago before they realised a straw helped it go down! My most recent one was in November, and they provided me with the straw this time.

Good luck - it’s not as bad as you think.
