Had to turn the car around and go home this morning as I couldn't stop crying

Not really sure why or what triggered it, I just started crying and couldn't stop. I've had a few stressful things on this week but nothing too out of the ordinary. Now I'm worrying about having to have called in a sick, I had the flu last week too so worried about my absence levels.

I just can't figure out what's actually wrong. I'm not hormonal so it's not that.

Please be kind to yourself. Sounds like things have caught up with you. Could it be the time of year as the weather and after the hols can feel bleugh?

MassiveOvaryaction · 16/01/2024 17:34

That sounds crappy @lorned I'm sorry Flowers
Were you worried about what you'd be going back to maybe as you'd been off sick?

How are you feeling about the prospect of going in tomorrow? If so it might be worth a call to your GP. Have you got anyone at home you can talk about how your feeling with?

Isheabastard · 16/01/2024 17:47

Years and years ago I had the same thing happen after flu. The doctor I went to see said it was something that could happen after flu.

I sometimes find if I suddenly get tearful for no reason, I will later find I am coming down with something, usually viral.

Not sure what the biology behind it is, but I really believe in the connection between mood and physical health.

Ugh. Can't edit for some reason. I meant if you are worried about going in again tomorrow maybe call the doc.

Yesterday was blue Monday. Hope you're feeling better soon. X

I’ve heard it can happen after flu too. When I had flu I was mid divorce so crying wasn’t unusual but in your case it sounds like it could be that?
Flu is utterly draining. Take care - maybe you aren’t quite ready to go back to work?

At least twice that i can think of I've arrived at work unable to stop crying. I did know why, that helps of course, but what matters most is what you do about it. I knew it meant i needed to look after myself and not force it so i returned home. Hope you feel better soon.

How old are you? Not a patronising Q just wondering if it could be peri.

StoppitRightNow · 16/01/2024 17:58

Also just JANUARY. Explains a lot of irrational emotions right now.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Monday_(date)

Blue Monday is the name given to a day in January (typically the third Monday of the month) said by a UK travel company, Sky Travel, to be the most depressing day of the year. The concept was first published in a 2005 press release from the company, which claimed to have calculated the date using an "equation". It takes into account weather conditions and thus only applies to the Northern Hemisphere.

Some have dismissed the idea as pseudoscience.[1] etc.

Its a rubbish time of year. The news is really worrying right now. Cost of living. All that over and above whatever is going on for you. It all piles up. Hope you feel better soon.
