I’ve booked my mum a weekend away for her birthday coming up soon. It’s a big house with her and children and grandchildren (ranging in age from 2-15). I’ve got some things planned and lots of time just hanging out spending time together but there is a free afternoon for some kind of activity but I’m struggling for ideas. Any insight into the kind of thing you’d like to do with your children and grandchildren for a couple of hours? We’d like to be able to stay in the house (or grounds of the house).

How about ‘This is Your Life’?

if you’ve never seen the tv programme you can watch on Youtube, the black and white programme with Eamonn Andrews.

You assemble photos and stories of her life and present them. This can include her parents/brothers/sisters, the schools she went to, her achievements, her wedding, her children and grandchildren as well as any relevant topics. This would be as a tribute to your lovely mum and how much you all appreciate what she’s done for you all but also gives her children and more-so her grandchildren an idea of who she is and where they’ve all come from.

He about pottery painting to make presents for Grandma? Could get all the stuff to do at home and it’s something everyone can get involved with at different levels from toddler to teens and nice keepsakes for Grandma.

I'm a grandma and have enough dodgy pottery bowls and mugs that I have made myself over the years and we have also been given various parent and grandparent mugs etc that we can't part with.
. The last thing I would want would be to add to this collection at an age when I need to think about decluttering and downsizing.

Prepared in advance could the kids share their favourite memories or thing they like best about Grandma?

games Afternoon. Do some outside games that kids can do, running races, bean bags, wheelbarrow, get adults in three legged races etc, should tire out the wild ones, then indoors for board games. Play in team with different age ranges. If it’s anything like our family there’ll be lots of shouting, laughing, cheating and bonding
