Own hand grasping/touching 11 month DD

Hello, please, is it normal for an 11-month-old baby to join/grasp her hands during the day, sometimes the palm with the fingers of the other hand, other times she grabs the fingers? Sometimes she puts her thumb in his mouth, sometimes not.
Did your kids do it too? No other kids around to compare.
she normally met milestones, perfectly uses hands and fingers, just makes also this “touches” and I am concerned if it´s normal.
thanks!

Yes yes! So normal! Why wouldn't it be? They're exploring the world after all!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 15/01/2024 18:08

Yeah me and DH joked about our now 13 month old sticking her hand in our mouths and pulling our noses! It's all exploratiin

My concern was more about hand grasping, fingers touch, or how to explain. Few times per day.

Sounds completely normal. They're exploring what their hands can do. I'd try and get help for your anxiety because that's quite a reaction to such a normal thing

Thanks for reply!
Anyway, i am aware of my issue/diagnosis, already started with light medicaments so hopefully getting better…

I think there would be significant other issues if your dd had Rett syndrome op. It doesn't sound like excessive hand holding/grasping that you've described.

Hope it all works out for you 💐

@PetraTess Totally perfectly normal. It would be weird if she wasn't doing this tbh!

Good luck with your meds and reducing your anxiety Flowers

I would not see it like excessive, dd makes it sometimes in the day. But a combination of my own diagnosis and too many available information is terrible, makes me paranoic 😔 thus I tried to get information if other one yeah also do such movements.

I understand your concerns. I was the same after my first was born ( late 70s). I must have read about something similar to Rett’s, was certain there was a problem. Turned out I had undiagnosed post natal depression, and later I could see it started the day I came home from hospital , saw the DDog and was convinced she was dying ( she was about 3, in perfect health)
Help for PND was far less then so it’s really good you’ve already sought help. I’d hate anyone to suffer for months on end like I did.

Topseyt123 · 15/01/2024 18:53

Absolutely normal.

Dear ladies, let me add something.
i am not a native english speaker (i think is already obvious 😀) and not sure if I used the words in my explanation correctly.
just to be sure and dont have any doubts also here, I took some photos from Google how it looks like.
most probably the more proper word should be “claps hands together”. Maybe?
she does it for few seconds each time, not holding for longer.
could you please check this two photos and let me know if my original description reflected with this movement and you also imagined like this. Is still ok?
thanks a lot 🙏🏻

Could you please reply me, ladies? If the photos corespond to my original description and your former answers?

Your child is figuring out how her body works and moves. She will clasp her hands, grab her feet, touch her face, just as much as she will touch other objects.

Please continue to seek help for post natal anxiety.

Mabelface · 16/01/2024 11:09

Hands are fascinating things to babies, as is the world around them. What she's doing is perfectly normal and age appropriate. In fact, we all do this at points in the day.

Annehn188 · 04/03/2024 05:02

Any update? I have the same concerns.
