Cats and Amtico flooring.

Before I spend a fortune on amtico flooring can anyone tell me if their cat has been able to scratch at it? My cat has really ruined some leather dining chairs and totally ignores any scratching posts or mats that we have got him. The flooring seems to have nice little bits to grip on to and I’m a bit worried.

I have two cats who like scratching everything, they haven’t managed to do anything to the Amtico flooring.

I have amtico and my cat's never scratched it. He's a good boy and uses his scratching post though so possibly not helpful...

Thank you both - I think I’m going to risk it and hope for good behaviour from the cat. 😄

Our cat was a nightmare for scratching stuff. Our amtico flooring remained unscathed though so I'd say go for it!

FizzyStream · 15/01/2024 18:39

Agree with pp, our cat (and children) have failed to damage our flooring. It's pretty tough luckily!

pippi123 · 15/01/2024 18:47

This is all good news.

Amtico flooring is great, ridiculously hard wearing. The only damage we ever managed was when my sister bought indoor fireworks round and part of it landed on the floor.

My cats havent scratched our Amtico flooring, they much prefer scratching the leather sofa.☹️

I have 20 plus cats and Amtico or similar LTV flooring everywhere. It's totally cat -proof.

Crazymadchickenlady · 15/01/2024 21:37

Our cats have never scratched our amtico flooring

This sounds like my cat on the dining chairs. Total wrecks. I’m glad the flooring is tougher.

Cats are such vandals! Our settee has been wrecked by our cats. We’re about to move and will buy new settees, plus inherit lovely leather dining chairs. I’d like to prevent my little darlings from wrecking them - do cat towers with scratching posts actually work?

Ibizafun · 15/01/2024 21:56

We have amtico and cats.. no issue at all.

Do you not have any scratching posts? They beed to have something to scratch, it’s essential for their health.

Get them some scratching posts and a tower. And a clicker. Every time they scratch the post, click and give them a treat.

Every time they scratch something they shouldn’t, calmly pick them up and put them down at their post without saying anything. Then ignore them, unless they scratch the post in which case reward them with a click and a treat.

You can also position a scratcher in the area of the sofa they like to scratch. You can get ones that hang over the sofa. But ideally I’d try to get them out of the habit of thinking sofa = scratch.

i have no regrets so far except that i didn’t put amtico in the kitchen and utility as well…

Edited

No. They’re outdoor cats, we have a small holding. They usually just scratch outside. Tbh scratching posts didn’t exist when I was young and had cats.

Its my female that scratches when it’s cold.
