Adult ADHD assessment

Please can anyone advise me or share similar experiences.
After years of struggle and not wanting to consider help my husband has decided to get assessed for ADHD in his 50s. Reading the list of inattentive ADHD symptoms is like reading a description of him. We both think it's very likely to be what he has.

He had never been one to see the GP unless unavoidable and can't deal with seeing the GP about this now to ask for a referral. He just wants to book a private assessment and get the process started. I am supportive of this but just trying to make sure we go about it the right way and don't waste money.

I have looked at organisations that have 'right to choose' agreements with the NHS and also offer private assessments.

We ar thinking of using ADHD 360. Does anyone have experience of them good or bad?

I was hoping that using someone who also does NHS assessments would be good for a couple of reasons.

  1. Hopefully this means they do a decent assessment and use the right tools
  2. Also hoping that using an NHS approved provider for a private assessment would give us a better chance of getting a shared care agreement with the GP if he does get a diagnosis.

I would really appreciate any comments or experiences and to know if I've interpreted the above in the wrong way.

I forgot to add does anyone have recent experience of the cost of ADHD medication as a private prescription? The estimate I've read is £30-£250 per month. I assume the upper figure would be for someone needing more than one type of medication.

Hi I had a private assessment done via adhd360 and have now gone to shared care for my medications with the gp. I think it was about £1200 for the assessments and the first years cover for the consultant, I did 8 months of titration with medications to find the best options for me this is a combination of two medications it was costing me £280 every 28 days, luckily my gp took on shared care so now my prescription is just £20 every 28 days, however you have to pay an annual fee for your consultant so you can have access to the medications which currently is £420 a year.
