Awake with tablet stuck in throat

I took paracetamol caplets at bedtime (feeling very rough) and they're stuck' in my throat. I'm now awake, shivering and aching all over with the added insult of one of those caplets wedged.

I've tried swallowing more water and also tried taking 2 ibuprofen (I am aching terribly) in the hope that they'll take out the stuck caplet on the way down.

Nope.

To top it off I feel so rough I think I may have Covid.

Food , it will push them down

Slice of toast might help. If it still feels stuck after that it might just be a bruise that feels like the capsule's still there? You could look in the mirror with a torch.

They won’t be stuck, DM used to get this. Her GP said it’s quite common to feel as though they are but they (almost) never are as swallowing moves them straight away.

Hold some water in your mouth, puff your cheeks out, then do a big gulp. It was the only way I could swallow some huge vitamin tablets I used to take.

TheSlantedOwl · 15/01/2024 01:31

It could be you’ve bruised your throat taking them and it feels like one is stuck.

Suck water out of a plastic bottle. Fizzy is even better.

Thanks for replying everyone.

I feel quite weak and shivery and can't face walking down stairs to get a piece of bread . Bloody awful feeling in my throat though 😭

Tuck your chin in to your chest and work up
Saliva in your mouth and keep your chin tucked in and swallow.

Natural reaction to swallowing tablets is to throw your head back but it's actually better to open your throat by tucking your chin in.

I would continue to drink water in hopes pill will dissolve or advance down your esophagus. My cousin had a lodged pill eroded her esophageal lining and she had to have medical intervention…primarily soft diet and carafate slurry. Keep drinking and seek medical help if it worsens. Even as a pill it’s called a “lodged food bolus”.
