How long can a teen survive on the contents of a Ryanair size carry bag (40cm x 20cm x 25cm)

My son is planning to go abroad for the first time in the summer for 5 days and will only have a carry on bag as described.
Can you fit enough in such a bag?
It's in Germany so temperature will be similar to southern England in late August, early September.
Thanks

Depends on the teen … some are happy to rewear their clothes multiple times 🤣

Im going away for six nights with just a cabin bag, think it’s doable.

calimali · 14/01/2024 10:51

Yes, no problem at all.

Wear the heaviest things he needs - jeans, hoodie etc. In his bag he just needs a couple of t shirts, shorts, maybe a light pair of trousers and underwear. Buy his toiletries when he gets there if he is really worried about things not fitting in the bag.

PatriciaHolm · 14/01/2024 10:54

Of course! DD did Portugal for a week with that and is off to Spain this week with the same.

I can easily manage for a week with just a cabin bag. I wear a hoody and denim jacket and my bulkier clothes like jeans and trainers. You can take another small bag that fits under the seat in front- I got one from amazon for under 30 quid, just search "ryanair under seat bag". I don't take any toiletries, I just buy them when I get there. Or after security if room in my bag.

Fallenangelofthenorth · 14/01/2024 10:58

If flying Ryanair though, I'd advise him to board quickly as if you're near the back they often put your bag in hold so have to wait for it to come out on the carousel.

I thought if you're flying hand baggage only that it is just the one bag you're allowed (40cm x 20cm x 25cm)?

A lot of posters are saying they can do it with a cabin bag but those measurements are not the cannon bag size are they? - they are the 'small' included bag size.

PatriciaHolm · 14/01/2024 10:59

I think OP means he only has the small under seat bag. That is what DD can manage with for a week.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/01/2024 10:59

*cabin

forcedfun · 14/01/2024 11:01

Easily.

When my son was young I used to have to pack so much medication and special food or him I could barely bring anything for myself. It's amazing how little you really need.

And yeah, but toiletries etc when you get there/at the airport.

ronoi · 14/01/2024 11:01

It's a very small bag, there is no way mine could pack for 5 days in one of those. Why can't he have a bigger allowance?

Nestofwalnuts · 14/01/2024 11:02

DS does it all the time. We only insist he pays for a bag if he is going for more than a week.

You wear your chunkiest boots, trousers, sweater or hoody and coat. Buy toiletries once you arrive. Pack toothbrush, pants, socks, tees, PJs if he uses them, a lighter weight pair of trainers and trousers (or shorts if it's summer).

It's just about doable if they wear all the heavy gear

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/01/2024 11:05

My teen will be doing the same I for IIRC three nights - college have booked the small under seat bag only and thus far have said the students cannot choose to pay to add a cabin bag. She's just going to have to treat it like a festival and not mind smelling! If suggested that they decide between a few of them who's bring shower gel, toothpaste, shampoo etc and share, but she's not got any good friends going and "feels weird" asking...

OhNaffOffYouWazzock · 14/01/2024 11:07

He'll be fine with good folding and as long as he doesn't plan on taking loads of shoes.

AvengedQuince · 14/01/2024 11:08

DS did 4 days in cold weather with this size bag. I don't think it would be an issue, just wear jeans and jumper/jacket on the plane and take a travel towel.

AnnaMagnani · 14/01/2024 11:09

Depending on the teen, anywhere from not even one night to indefinitely.

My teen cousin once came to stay for a month having packed a toothbrush and one pair of pants.

Is it South Germany - it is very very hot there in summer, humid with thunderstorms.

PoinsettiaLives · 14/01/2024 11:09

Yes just about- pants, socks, a few T shirts, PJs, charger. Buy wash stuff there. Wear everything else. Means one pair of trousers for 5 days which is ok as long as he doesn’t spill anything.

An ordinary carry on bag- easily.

Of course he will. It's 5 days!!

i can do a fortnight with a bag that size in August & I bet my clothes are a lot bigger than his.

if weight is the issue he can just buy his toiletries once he gets there.

he may have to restrict his footwear.

idontlikealdi · 14/01/2024 11:15

The Ryanair under seat bag is smaller than a cabin bag, you cannot take another bag with you.

I managed 4 nights, didn't need to take towels though. Bought toiletries airside.

School did that for a volleyball tournament, all good, except they then insisted on requiring them all to take both full practice kit & full tournament kit and had to travel in the school PE kit.

they ended up having to book a couple if check in bags for the required training & tournament trainers & a toilet bag each.

the girls didn't take various bits of kit & only just managed to fit in clean
underwear. Absolutely bloody ridiculous.

Sorry, I thought you meant a normal cabin bag until I read the whole thread🙇🏻‍♀️ I think my bag I use as a cabin bag is inbetween.

Yes, I do it myself, with just the tiny Ryanair bag. Basically, you wear the clothes you take, and pack only extra underwear and toiletries and a micro towel.

You wear the same clothes for 5 days?

No, you wear them as layers for the journey. But I would easily wear one pair of trousers or a skirt for several days.

LIZS · 14/01/2024 11:32

Dc regularly travel with just the cabin bag/backpack, as have I. Up to a week if carefully planned.
