Fringe or no fringe

I used to have a fringe, decades ago. Lately I've been thinking of having one again. I noticed that none of my friends have one. Are they particularly uncool these days? Do they only suit younger people? We are all over 50. Or do they only suit a certain face shape?

Ive been growing my fringe out the last 2 years after having a fringe my whole life. I actually can't think of anyone I know with a fringe but I absolutely loved having one and I'm seriously thinking of cutting it back. The only thing stopping me is it make life so much easier on hot holidays! I'm 42. Id say go for it if you fancy it.

I'm 50 and dd is 20

I am the same age as you and I cut mine back in after about 20 years without it.

It was a good move. And yes they are fashionable now.

BrandNewBicep · 13/01/2024 17:50

Alas, I don't have enough hair to have a fringe anymore and I miss it every single day. I really don't suit not having a fringe. I think most women as they get older look better with a fringe of some sort.

Tomatina · 13/01/2024 18:44

They suit almost anyone. Especially if you have a high forehead or a long face. Also they seem to be coming back into fashion. Just don't cut it too short!

PuppyMonkey · 13/01/2024 18:49

I’ve always had a fringe. Never given a thought to whether they’re cool or not. A fringe suits me and hides forehead frown lines too.

Houselamp · 13/01/2024 18:54

I think it depends on the type of fringe as well as face shape, as to whether someone will suit one.
And different fringes do go in and out of style, but if you looked good with one when you were younger there is no reason it wouldn't suit you now

Zonder · 13/01/2024 19:04

Well this is much more encouraging than I expected! I may go for it.

Ha, I'm late 50s and have a fringe. Great for covering up frown lines and the only pain is it getting in your eyes as it gets longer (how Claudia Winkleman can bear hers I don't know). If you have a regular hairdresser they'll usually trim it for free but it's often more convenient to use a pair of sharp hairdressing scissors and do it yourself.

I’d say show us your face but in all my years on mn I think there’s only been 2 people who were brave enough to 😂

Lovelynames123 · 13/01/2024 19:19

I have a fringe, I'm told I look younger!

SophieJo · 13/01/2024 19:22

It hides all your forehead wrinkles as you get older!

11NigelTufnel · 13/01/2024 19:22

I had a fringe for years, but every time the air was damp, it would curl up at the sides. I decided in the end that fringes are better for people with properly straight hair, or those who are prepared to do the required maintenance. If you are that person then go for it.

maximist · 13/01/2024 19:23

I had to have a fringe cut in after an unfortunate episode with a bonfire resulting in very singed hair at the front, but I'm glad I did, I really like it. I just trim it every couple of weeks or so with hairdressing scissors.

ItWasneaMe · 17/02/2024 14:48

Had a fringe most of my life, but just grown it out to the point where I can pull it behind my ears, but I dont like that look now! Took nearly a year to get it this far and now I'm not sure.

My DS says cut it back in, best mate says long fringe, husband says leave it as it is (though I don't often listen to him when it comes to my hair as he wants me to dye it Stacey Dooley red, which would just look daft. I'm 60 and sallow skinned!) 😊

MaidOfSteel · 17/02/2024 14:50

I have a fringe and I love it. Way cheaper than botox!

bilbodog · 17/02/2024 16:08

Im 67 and just gone back to having a fringe! Taking a few weeks to get used to it but im loving it!

EmailMyHeart · 17/02/2024 16:11

I’m a hairdresser and I’d say fringes suit 90% of people. It can be a little more work depending on your hair type, if you need to style it every day.

Kemblefordsnice · 17/02/2024 18:02

My fringe hides my wrinkled forehead but I'm fed up of having hair pinched out every time I change my glasses.
So I'm growing it out and am going to embrace the wrinkles.

ItWasneaMe · 17/02/2024 18:49

Well, it's back! I relented and cut my fringe back in. Ah that's better!
