Can I get my son's passport certified at the Post Office ...

... if he isn't with me?

He needs a certified copy, but his passport is at home while he is away at uni. I'm wondering if I can take his passport and a scanned copy to the post office to get the copy verified. The website doesn't say they need to verify the customer's identity. It does say "your" documents, but that's a bit subtle: https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/document-certification

Yeah should be fine, they're certifying that the copy is a true copy of the original, not that it looks like him. I would probably ring and check first though?

I think that they may need to copy it themselves rather than a copy you’ve taken in. I needed ID documents certified and a local solicitor did 3 copies for me and charged £10. They had to copy and stamp them then sign them themselves.

They won’t need to copy the document themselves - they just need to examine the copy against the original

I don't know about the post office but when I needed similar doing, I just walked into the nearest solicitor and asked. They did it straight away and it only cost £5 I think. I got the impression it was a standard thing that they did all the time...
