PLEASE HELP mammogram results

Hi, am posting here for traffic because I am so worried. I had a routine mammogram (I am 51) 10 days ago. I have today received a letter recalling me to the clinic. Could this just be because they didn't get a clear enough picture and they need to redo it? Would it say on the letter if that was the reason for recall or do they just send out a standard letter? I have awful health anxiety so am in a state. Thank you

Thank you for all your kind messages. Ultrasound confirmed I have a few tiny cysts which are completely harmless and will disappear themselves. Apparently, I would have never felt them myself. Staff at the breast care unit were incredibly kind.

I remember how lovely the staff were at my recall too. Glad you had good news.

Thank you for this thread. I had my first mammogram last week (not symptom led but from a family history referral) and got a text today saying an appointment has been made for me next week for a mammogram and ultrasound. Which was a complete shock!

I ended up driving to the hospital and spoke to someone at the unit (I tried calling but noone picked up). The staff were helpful and reassuring. A member of the radiology team said the mammogram showed a density in my left breast which needs further exploring and 3D imaging and to try not to worry as it’s unlikely to be anything serious.

I was grateful for their advice and now trying not to worry ahead of the appointment. But I’m disappointed (and quite angry) about the process. Apparently someone should have called me. Also as I’ve been referred I wouldn’t have gotten the results in the usual way as is done with routine screening. I would have to wait until a follow up appointment which was going to be at least 2 months after the mammogram! But they told me at the mammogram that it would be 2 weeks or a phone call to explain any further testing.

a text message with absolutely no context as to why these appointments had been made sent me into utter panic…

I think the way mammograms are done are awful and cause so much stress and worry, often unnecessarily. I really wish the mammogram was assessed when you are in the unit and told there and then if there are areas of concern and further tests are needed, waiting for the text or letter is awful let alone getting an actual recall with no explanation as to why, and then still having to wait for a follow up appointment to find out what’s going on, I think the stress women are put under must can cause significant psychological harm. I wonder if you have a private mammogram if the images get looked at while you are there?

Thank you @BigWillyLittleTodger I completely agree.
